7:50 AM
“Everyone, listen up!” Inoo shouted, palms resting on top of his desk as he leaned forward, eyeing his students. They stared back nervously, fiddling with their cell phone charms in their pockets, or twiddling their pencils in between their fingers.
“Exams are coming up soon, and as your math teacher, I expect nothing less than a perfect grade from you guys,” Inoo’s eyes drifted from one student to the next, stirring up fear in their poor little hearts, “Any questions?”
The students looked at each other, exchanging uneasy glances, daring each other to be the one to speak up. Eventually, all their eyes landed on the class president, who gulped, timidly raising her hand.
Inoo sighed, rolling his eyes, “Yes, Kawasaki-san?”
“What if we-we- hypothetically speaking, of course,” she stuttered, tumbling over her words awkwardly, “Don’t get a perfect grade?”
Inoo sighed again, this time accompanied by a small glare, and Kawasaki winced, looking away. “Then I guess I’ll just have to assign you guys more homework, so you’ll do better next time.”
The class let out a groan, dropping their heads into their hands, or onto their desks, cursing their teacher under their breath.
8:32 AM
“Inoo-san is such a bastard,” Arigaki whispered to his friends, but quickly quieted down when Yaotome cleared his throat, greeting his class with a friendly smile.
“Good morning everyone!” Yaotome picked up a stack of papers and began to hand them out, giving smaller stacks to the heads of the rows, so that they could pass them back. “I hope you all ate breakfast today~! Remember, a healthy body leads to a healthy mind, which you’re going to need if you’re going to pass Inoo-kun's exam.”
The class groaned again, having forgotten that morning’s nightmare.
“I know, I know,” Yaotome continued to smile, leaning back against his desk and folding his arms over his chest, “Inoo-kun is only pushing you guys this far though because he knows you can do it. If he didn’t believe in you, he wouldn’t even try.”
“Math sucks though,” Arigaki spoke up, and several students agreed with him, nodding their heads.
“You’re just more right brain than left brain,” Yaotome said, but then paused, looking curiously around, “Or is it, more left bran than right brain?”
“Sensei,” Chino giggled behind her hand, looking up at Yaotome in amusement, “We have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Yeah, me either,” Yaotome shrugged, stepping away from his desk and towards the chalkboard. “Time for health~!”
9:20 AM
“Inoo-kun,” Hikaru stopped Kei as he saw his colleague walking by, gesturing for him to follow his lead. Kei looked skeptical at first, but one well-placed smirk from Hikaru, and he quickly joined the other, grinning slyly.
“Your students are upset with you,” Hikaru commented, making idle chat as they made their way to the teachers' lounge.
“Like I care, it’s their second year of high school and they’ve been under my care for almost two months now,” Kei shrugged, opening the door to the teacher’s lounge and allowing Hikaru to enter first, before shutting the door behind him. “They should know by now what I expect from them.”
“I know,” Hikaru smiled, pulling Kei into the teacher’s bathroom and locking the door behind them. He pressed Kei against the wall, bringing their bodies flush together and a small moan from Kei’s lips.
“They’re my students too though, and you’re making them stressed out, which is bad for their health,” Hikaru whispered, a smirk now on his lips, “And as a health teacher, I don’t appreciate that.”
Kei rolled his eyes. Hikaru responded by pinching Kei’s butt, making him flinch and push against him. “Be nicer to them, okay?”
Another pinch, and Kei nodded, reluctantly, but agreeing nonetheless.
“Good,” is all Hikaru said, before making sure he and Kei used their ten minute break effectively.
9:36 AM
“Were you in the teacher’s lounge earlier?” Keito texted Yuri as he entered his classroom, coffee cup balanced in one hand, and a donut and cell phone in the other. One of his students, Miura, quickly stood and helped him out, taking the coffee cup from his hand.
“Thank you Miura-san,” Okamoto smiled, setting the rest of his stuff down and pressing send, before tucking his cell phone into his pocket and grabbing the cup of coffee from Miura.
“Good morning class, how are you all today?” Okamoto greeted them in English, taking a sip of his coffee.
“Good, how are you Mr. Okamoto?” the class asked collectively, bored sighs leaving their lips. Okamoto snickered to himself, shaking his coffee cup a little in order to blend the hot beverage together.
“I’m having a pretty good day, so far,” a few students chuckled at that, while the rest continued to look down at their notebooks, doodling in the margins or writing up notes for friends. “This is your last year of high school, and as my third year students, I hope you’ll make me proud by doing well on your English exam. I know you guys are getting bored of the usual way we learn, so I figured today, we could do something a little different.”
The students all perked up at this, looking at Okamoto curiously.
“I have with me Finding Nemo,” Okamoto announced, going over to his desk and taking the DVD out of the top drawer. “A very cute American film about two fish. Today and some of tomorrow, we will watch this film and then I want you guys to write me a one page response on it, in English of course.”
The students cheered, thanking him as he popped the DVD in and pressed play. Soon, they were enraptured by the film, and Okamoto slipped his phone out of his pocket, seeing two next texts.
“I was D: Inoo-kun and Hikaru-kun need to stop having sex in the teacher’s bathroom.” Keito had to bite his tongue in order to not laugh at Yuri’s text, and quickly went back to his inbox and read the next one, from Ryosuke.
“My first years are so bratty! I swear, I’m going to break Ryutaro’s thumbs until he agrees to give me his third year students!
Keito laughed freely this time, which went unnoticed by his students, as they were laughing at the movie. “You try that and Ryutaro will cut off your feet.”
Keito closed his phone and looked at the TV screen, watching the movie until his phone vibrated in his hand. He flipped it open and read the new text, shaking his head.
“If he cuts off my feet, I’m cutting off his legs and then Yuri will be taller than him, and we’ll all laugh and he’ll quit and then I can teach his third years!”
10:13 AM
Yuto grumbled under his breath as he eyed the clock again, desperately willing it to jump ahead another seven minutes. So close, yet so far, he sighed and ran his hands through his hair, taking his eyes off the clock and towards his students. Much to his annoyance, his class was obscenely good, always doing their work and never speaking out of turn. He envied Ryosuke, who was lucky enough to get stuck with the rowdy first years, while he had the prim and proper ones.
Yuto looked back at the clock, only four more minutes now. Pulling out his phone, he began to play solitaire, once again cursing his goody-two shoe students. They weren’t even passing notes!
His phone buzzed, and Yuto paused his game to see Ryosuke’s new text.
“I left the room for one minute, I SWEAR, and when I come back they’re all jumping around and throwing toilet paper at each other. I hate this class.”
“Stupid lucky bastard,” Yuto muttered darkly, just as the bell rang.
11:05 AM
“Psst, Yuri,” Ryutaro whispered to the man next to him, trying to be secretive. Yuri continued to ignore him though, so Ryutaro tried poking him instead.
“Yuri~” he repeatedly called the other, accompanied by a poke to the side. As the corners of Yuri’s lips began to twitch up, Ryutaro doubled his efforts and tickled the others flat tummy, bringing a girlish giggle out of Yuri’s mouth.
“You still mad at me?” Ryutaro asked as Yuri turned towards him, tucking a strand of loose hair behind his ear.
“I guess not,” Yuri shrugged, clicking his red pen closed. He had a few more papers to grade until his students got back from Daiki’s class, but that could wait. Grabbing Ryutaro’s hand, he gave it a small squeeze, sighing softly.
“You still coming over for dinner tomorrow? I know my parents are really excited to meet you,” Ryutaro smiled, leaning forward to give Yuri a kiss, but stopped when Yuya walked into the room. Clearing his throat, he dropped Yuri’s hand and turned back towards his desk, waiting until Yuya entered his office.
“You know, I don’t think so,” Yuri said, his tone bitter as he gathered his papers and shoved them neatly into his briefcase, leaving the teacher’s lounge. He heard Ryutaro calling after him, but the sound quickly ended as he slammed the door close, heading to Daiki’s class early.
12:34 PM
“Hey, what’s up?” Keito greeted Ryosuke as he joined him outside, on duty with the shorter male to monitor the second year students during lunch. The first years were inside the cafeteria with Yuri and Yuto, and the third years were still inside their classrooms, being harassed by their teachers to study more.
“Not much, bored, hate my class, the usual,” Ryosuke shrugged, taking a sip of his iced coffee. “You?”
“I’m good,” Keito nodded to himself, stealing Ryosuke’s drink to take a swig. The other man growled under his breath and Keito handed it back to him, grinning in a charming manner. Ryosuke blushed but said no more, his lips surrounding the mouth of the bottle.
“Did you hear about Yuto and Hikaru’s plans for after school?” Keito asked, making small talk.
Ryosuke shook his head, glancing at Keito from the corner of his eye. He lowered the coffee bottle slowly, his eyes narrowing along the way. “Don’t tell me-”
“Oh yeah, it's time for the big race,” Keito said, much to Ryosuke’s dismay.
1:20 PM
Kota rushed to his classroom, colliding with Kei along the way and sending the ill-tempered male to the floor. “Sorry!” he called over his shoulder, catching Kei’s middle finger raising up at him before looking back ahead of him. Seeing his classroom ahead, Kota exerted a bit of extra strength and burst into the room, causing his students to jump up in alarm.
“Sorry, sorry,” he breathed out, coming over to his desk and leaning on it, trying to catch his breath, “I had to run a few errands during lunch.”
“No worries Sensei,” Kato, his star musician, said, “We started our normal warm ups, we were just about to practice our piece for the school festival.”
“Ah, good, good,” Kota sat down at his desk, gesturing for them to continue. They did, Kato on the piano opening the piece, followed by the violins and basses.
Kota closed his eyes and enjoyed the music, his ears picking up a few small mistakes here and there. He noted them in the back of his mind, reminding himself to talk to the cellos once they were done. Overall though, it was a good performance, and Kota felt confident they would be ready in time for the festival.
1:45 PM
Arioka walked around Ryosuke’s class, the students following him with their eyes as they waited for him to speak. When he did, it was certainly something they weren’t expecting, and the group exploded in a fit of giggles as the word, ‘penis,’ left Arioka’s lips.
“Get out those giggles out now kids,” he said, followed by a ‘testicles,’ and more laughter. “We are going to be using these words a lot in this class, and if we laugh each time that happens, well, we wouldn’t get very far.”
Arioka stopped in front of a sassy looking girl, makeup surrounding her eyes and her hair tied up in a high bun. “Say something sexual for the class, please.”
The girl’s giggles stopped, and she looked up at Arioka in surprise, before muttering a quiet, ‘fallopian tubes’. The class doubled over laughing, and the girl quickly joined them, sharing an amused glance with the boy across from her.
Arioka stopped in front of another kid, a boy with chubby cheeks and spiky hair. Without even being prompted, the boy immediately said, “Sperm!”
The next fifteen minutes continued in this fashion, until Arioka called for them to stop, turning toward the chalkboard behind him. He grabbed a piece of pink chalk and drew a rather poor picture of the male and female reproductive organs, bringing about another roar of laughter from the students.
Daiki rolled his eyes and began to label the picture, stopping at the fallopian tubes and letting out a small snicker.
2:16 PM
“Almost done,” Ryutaro ran a hand through his hair, sitting at his desk while his students silently read from their history text. He was antsy for the school day to be over, and so that he could talk to Yuri.
Thankfully, he had the big race to look forward to, which gave him more time to be with Yuri. With that in mind, he pulled out his phone and began texting Daiki, a brow raising up in slight disgust and curiosity when the older male sent him a crude picture of a penis.
2:20 PM
Kota hung out at the back of Kei’s class, the students paying him no attention as they cowered in fear before their teacher’s wrath. Feeling terribly sorry for the poor kids, Kota turned back to his music sheets, trying to decide what piece to teach his students next.
2:39 PM
“You know Yuya is going to kick your ass for doing this again, right?” Keito asked Hikaru as they raided the janitor’s closet, gathering the wheeled mop holders and rolling them into Keito’s empty classroom. He had no English classes at the end of the day, so his room was the ideal place to hold everything until school finished. Hikaru didn’t have classes either, but he shared his health room with the sex-ed room, and Daiki was teaching Yuto’s class at the moment.
“Like I care,” Hikaru laughed, removing all the mops from inside the containers and tossing them aside. “This race is important, Keito. It’ll determine all of our fates!”
Keito crossed his arms over his chest, “No it won’t, it only determines who gets the principal's parking spot for a month.”
“That spot is prime time though,” Hikaru argued, looking very serious as he poured soap on the wheels, in order to give them more speed. “Like the last piece of pizza, or that big slice of cake I didn’t get at your damn birthday!” Hikaru finished with a glare, his eyes accusing.
Keito stood there, completely silent. “I don’t even know how to respond to that,” he eventually said, causing Hikaru to throw a handful of soap at him.
2:55 PM
“For tomorrow’s assignments,” Chinen addressed his students, drawing their attention back to him and away from the clock, “I want you guys to read chapter five in your biology text, and to answer the study questions. Also, read chapters nine and ten in your history text, about the British empire.”
The students wrote down their assignments in their notebooks, and just as they finished, the ball rang, signaling the end of the school day. Chinen waved goodbye to the kids as they left the classroom, before heading out as well, making his way towards the teachers' lounge to drop off his briefcase before the big race. Along the way, he caught up with Yuto and Ryosuke, squeezing between the two of them as they entered the lounge.
Ryutaro looked over at them as they walked in, but Yuri kept his eyes towards the ground, not ready to confront his on-again-off-again love interest. He cared deeply for Ryutaro, and he knew he’d accept the man back into his heart soon enough, but he was still sore over what happened earlier that day.
If only Ryutaro was as open about their relationship to their friends, as he was his parents. Then they wouldn’t have any problems at all.
Sighing, Yuri made his way over to his desk, the one right by Ryutaro’s, and set his briefcase down. “Yuri-” Ryutaro began to call out to him, but he walked away, joining Yuto and Ryosuke at the water cooler.
They chatted for a few moments, waiting for their phones to buzz. When they did, they all made their way to the second floor, where all the teachers and staff, minus Yuya, were gathered.
“Hey guys,” Keito greeted them as they walked back, helping Hikaru put the last finishing touches on the soapy trail leading to the mop buckets.
“Alright, we’re all here!” Hikaru clapped his hands together, grinning excitedly at everyone. “Well, it’s that time of the year again where we hold our annual race, to see who gets the principal’s parking spot for a month. I think we all know the rules, but just in case,” Hikaru pointed to the obstacle course behind him, going over the familiar rules.
“First, you run through the soapy slide and to your mop holder, where your partner will be waiting to race you down to the flags at the end of the hall. Then, you guys switch places and whoever makes it back here first, wins. Any questions?” Hikaru turned back towards the group, practically bouncing in place.
A moment of silence filled the hallway, and Hikaru clapped his hands again, signaling the competitors to get in place. This year, only Hikaru, Ryutaro, Kota and Yuto were willing to compete, after last year’s disaster where Daiki ended up breaking his arm, after Ryosuke lost control of their mop holder and sent the other man flying through the air.
Their unwilling partners, Kei, Yuri, Daiki and Keito took their spots by the mop holders, sighing as they waited for the whistle to blow. When it did, the four competitors took off, sliding and slipping down the soapy trail. Kota was the first to fall, landing not so gracefully on his non-existent behind. Everyone began laughing as the music teacher swore, trying to get back up, scrambling to find purchase under all the soap.
Ryutaro wasn’t much better off, falling to his knees but managing to slide all the way to his mop holder, like some kind of rockstar. He quickly jumped in and Yuri grabbed hold of the handles, rushing them down the hall.
Hikaru got in next, landing inside of his bucket face first. Kei, who was already annoyed at having been coerced into this stupid role, didn’t give Hikaru a chance to right himself before taking off, making the other shriek girlishly as they sped down the hall.
Yuto was behind Hikaru by only a few seconds, his pants soaked around the ankles as he struggled to fit his tall legs inside the bucket. After a few more failed attempts and name calling from his colleagues, Yuto tucked his legs over the side and soon they were off, Keito quickly catching up to Kei and Hikaru.
Kota, sadly, was still struggling in the soapy trail, his entire body drenched now in the sticky liquid. Daiki made no move to help him, enjoying the older male’s dismay far too much.
Ryutaro and Yuri passed the flags and switched places, quickly and efficiently, before heading to the finish line, narrowly avoiding a collision with Kei and Hikaru. Keito and Yuto weren’t so lucky though, and soon the two mop holders collided, sending Hikaru and Yuto to the ground and on top of each other, scrawny elbows and knees tangled. Kei fell over backwards in the process, while Keito fell into the bucket, his legs flailing in the air.
Yuri and Ryutaro won, the crowd of teachers and staff cheering them on as they came to a stop. Yuri climbed out of the bucket, ready to walk away when Ryutaro embraced him, surprising the shorter male with a kiss. “I’m sorry about earlier,” he said, his cheeks growing red as the school nurse whistled, “If I share the parking spot with you, will you come to dinner tomorrow?”
“Idiot,” Yuri chuckled, accepting Ryutaro’s proposal with another kiss.
“I love happy endings!” Kota cried out, giving up on trying to stand up and simply laying back in the bubbles, his hair sticking up in odd directions.
“Me too,” Ryosuke grinned, before jogging over to help Keito out of the mop holder, feeling the sudden urge to take Keito to the bathroom and help ‘clean him up.’ Or maybe to his classroom, to have sex on the desk of the student he hated the most, he couldn’t decide.
“I can’t believe I lost,” Hikaru wailed as he and Yuto untangled themselves from each other, Yuto standing up with a slight sway before falling back down, rubbing his sore head. “I always win!!” Hikaru looked over at Kei, pouting fiercely.
Kei sighed, helping Hikaru up and slipping his arm around his waist, “Come on, let’s get some take out and go back to my place,” he said, bidding the others a goodbye as he dragged Hikaru away.
“That was fun,” Yuto said slowly, his head woozy as he tried to stand again. Keito, thanks to Ryosuke’s help, was free from the mop holder and went over to Yuto, helping him to his feet.
“Have Daiki drive you home, okay?” Keito said, fussing over his friend and checking his head for wounds. There was a small scrape, but nothing too serious. “I don’t want you to walk out in traffic by accident.”
“Okay,” Yuto grinned and stumbled over to Daiki, flopping into the boy’s arms and giving him a hug. At the other end of the hall, Ryosuke grabbed Keito’s hand and lead him to his classroom for some ‘after school activities.’
Soon, the hallway began to clear up, all the teachers and staff ready to go home after that round of entertainment. Still on the floor, Kota sighed and closed his eyes, waiting for his sticky mess to dry so he could get up.
The sound of someone clearing their throat prompted Kota to re-open his eyes, and when he did, he gave Yuya, the school principal, a sheepish grin. “Hey Yuya, how are you?”
Yuya shook his head at him, grinning as he helped Kota up. When the man was standing, Yuya gave him a pointed look, taking in his messy appearance. “You guys had another race, didn’t you?”
Kota shrugged, “Hikaru has a point, your parking spot is amazing.”
“My teachers are complete idiots, I swear,” Yuya rolled his eyes, but there was no real malice to his voice. The annual race was a tradition after all, as well the ass kicking Hikaru was going to receive at their next staff meeting.
“Come on, let’s get you cleaned up,” Yuya chuckled, leading a slippery and squeaky clean Kota to the boy’s locker room.
