Alone in the quiet room, Fujimaru could hear someone calling his name; a quiet, familiar voice that eased his throbbing headache and brought him comfort, allowing him to momentarily forget about the blood dripping from his temple. He tried to open his eyes to see this friend, but all he could manage was a slight flutter, the action being too strenuous for his exhausted and battered body.
“Fujimaru,” the voice called out again, closer this time and he could feel a gentle hand brushing against his cheek, pushing back his bloodied bangs, “Fujimaru.”
“Wha,” he gasped out, eyes still closed as he weakly lifted his hand, letting it hover in the air as it shook, “Who-”
“Ssh, it’s okay,” the voice whispered, grabbing his hand and holding it tight, “I’m here.”
“Otoya,” Fujimaru began to smile, his breathing slowing down, “I…”
“I know, Fujimaru, I know,” Otoya squeezed Fujimaru’s hand, “Rest, I’ll see you soon.”
Fujimaru nodded once and sighed, his hand dropping to the floor and back into his warm blood, a reminder that he was here, dying; but he didn’t feel alone, Otoya’s loving presence was still with his and with that thought, Fujimaru stopped fighting and allowed himself to sleep, knowing what awaited him on the other side with a smile.
