Characters: (onesided) Inoo/Ryutaro. Inoo/Keito. Yamada.
Summary: Ryutaro takes Inoo out to play some baseball // Inoo reassures Yamada that it's going to be okay // Keito and Inoo enjoy the last few moments of summer, together

Inoo steps up to the plate, the pants Ryutaro lent him (because he didn’t want to ruin his new jeans) riding up his ass and squeezing the life out of his thighs. He adjusts the helmet placed awkwardly on his head, and then taps the base with his bat, signaling he’s ready for whatever injury he’s about to endure.

He really hopes he doesn’t get injured, of course, but who is he kidding, he’s not exactly all star athlete material. He’d much rather be at home, or causing some kind of trouble with Hikaru, but when Ryutaro came up to him after practice and begged him to play baseball with him this afternoon, he just couldn’t say no.

Ryutaro waves at him, and then smiles, giving him a thumbs up. Inoo takes a deep breath and swallows back his fear of getting hit in the face, or the groin, with a baseball and smiles back.

Ryutaro nods, and his expressions do a complete 180 as he stares at Inoo, his eyes intense and his posture straight. He’s calculating, Inoo can tell, and he begins to wonder just what the hell he’s gotten himself into, and if there was enough time for him to drop this heavy bat and run away-

Ryutaro’s leg lifts up as he pulls his arm back, and before Inoo can even blink, he pitches the ball, sending it flying towards home base. Nice knowing you, face, Inoo thinks solemnly, closing his eyes as he swings the bat back and then - SMASH!

Inoo’s eyes snap open, dropping the bat to the ground (because his arms are shaking so bad), and both he and Ryutaro watch in amazement as the ball goes soaring through the air, until it eventually crashes down into the outfield, sending a plume of dust into the air.

“Oh my God!” Ryutaro shouts, throwing his hands into the air, “Inoo, that was, oh my God!” he grins and runs over to Inoo, tackling him in a fierce, and proud, hug.

“That was incredible!” Ryutaro gushes, his face buried in Inoo’s neck and his arms wrapped tight around his neck.

“I can’t believe I actually hit it,” Inoo breathes out, feeling dazed as he numbly hugs Ryutaro back, “I thought for sure it was going to hit me.”

“Same here,” Ryutaro admits, chuckling, “I’m so,” he pauses, blushing, giving Inoo a dreamy-eyed look, “That was awesome. You’re awesome.”

Inoo rolled his eyes, untangling himself from Ryutaro and picking up the bat, “Thanks kid,” he says, “Come on, let’s see if I can do that again!”

“Alright,” Ryutaro cheers and runs back to the pitcher’s mound, and although Inoo wasn’t able to do it again (he gave up after the baseball hit him in the stomach), seeing Ryutaro so happy made it all worth it.

It had taken him a couple of hours, but eventually, Inoo found the younger boy, huddled under a large, dark tree, which protected him from the light rain. His shoulders were shaking along with his cries, and his face was pressed against his knees, his arms wrapped around his shins. It broke Inoo’s heart to see the vibrant Yamada like this; sobbing, his clothes and hair sticking to his face, looking so small and hurt and alone

“Ryosuke,” Inoo said quietly, bending down in front of the boy, “It’s going to be okay,” he frowned, hating how weak and unpromising the words sounded.

“Inoo-chan,” Yamada whimpered, looking up at Inoo, “They hate me,” he whispered, his voice hoarse from crying.

“No,” Inoo quickly responded, shaking his head. He hated seeing Yamada like this, his eyes filled with sadness, and pain. “They don’t hate you, they’re just hurt and confused,” Inoo frowned, he didn’t like having to make excuses for them. “It’s not fair how they’re treating you, but believe me, they don’t hate you.”

“They should, I deserve it,” Yamada shuddered, his breath hitching. “I could have said something but I didn’t, I just let it all happen. I betrayed them, and you, too.”

“You betrayed no one, Ryosuke,” Inoo lifted his hands to cup Yamada’s cheeks, brushing away his tears, “You had no choice, and we all know that, just sometimes they slip and take out their frustrations onto you. You don’t deserve it.”

Yamada sighed, “You sure?” he asked, his eyes filled with uncertainty.

“Of course,” Inoo smiled softly, removing his hands from Yamada’s cheek so the younger boy could rub his eyes. When he was done, he helped Yamada up and embraced him, arms tight around his waist.

“Thank you for being here Kei-chan,” Yamada spoke against Inoo’s neck, his arms around Inoo’s shoulder.

“Of course,” Inoo repeated, and then he began to shift his feet from side to side, causing Yamada to chuckle as they slow danced in the rain.

Sitting down on the wooden bench next to Keito, Inoo smiled and leaned his head against the younger boy’s shoulder, sighing in content. It was a nice summer day; the sun was out and shining brightly above, the flowers were in full bloom and the birds were happily singing their song, fluttering about in the clear blue sky.

“I don’t want summer to ever end,” Inoo commented, taking a lick of his ice cream cone. “It’s just so perfect.”

“I know,” Keito smiled, enjoying the gentle breeze that brushed across his face.

“We should all just move to Hawaii during the winter. There’s a lot of Japanese people there, and you speak English, so we’d totally get by.” Inoo looked up at Keito, smiling widely, his lips a light pink color from the strawberry ice cream he was enjoying.

Keito chuckled, pressing his cheek against Inoo’s wavy hair. “Sounds like a good plan.”

“I know,” Inoo replied, nearly finished with his ice cream. “That’s why I’m the smart one in the group.”

“And so modest,” Keito mumbled, causing Inoo to whack him on the arm and almost drop his ice cream cone.
