Summary: Hikaru helps Inoo to let go // Inoo is there for Takaki in his time of need

Hikaru sat down with a depressed sigh, his elbows resting on the dinner table. He eyed the dishes Inoo had set out; potatoes, vegetables and meat. It was a simple dinner, one of his favorites, but as his hand passed through the bowl of potatoes, he knew he couldn’t enjoy it.

“Why do you keep doing this?” Hikaru asked Inoo, who looked up at him curiously, his mouth full of broccoli. “Kei, you need to let me go.”

Inoo swallowed, “I don’t know what you mean,” he said, getting up from his seat and going over towards Hikaru, placing a spoonful of potatoes onto his place. “Eat up now, you’re way too thin.”

“Kei,” Hikaru grabbed Inoo’s wrist, surprised it didn’t pass through like last time. “Kei, this isn’t right, I mean look around you.”

Inoo frowned, following Hikaru’s gesture and seeing nothing wrong with his spotless kitchen. The dishes were neatly stacked in the sink, the floors were clean and everything had a pleasant lemon scent wafting from it.

“Kei,” Hikaru got up, his hands on Inoo’s hollowed out cheeks, “You’re not seeing what’s really there,” Hikaru shook his head, eyeing the filthy state of their kitchen; the dishes laying broken on the floor, the food molding in the fridge and the blood splattered across the walls. “Kei, you’re losing it.”

“Hikaru, please,” Inoo sniffed, his eyes tearing up, noticing a piece of broken glass on the floor that wasn’t previously there, “Please, just stop, I love you.”

“I love you too,” Hikaru said, brushing back Inoo’s long bangs so he could kiss the others forehead, “And I want to be with you, forever, but I can’t,” Hikaru paused, looking into Inoo’s eyes, “This is killing you, Kei.”

“Would that be so bad?” Inoo cried, throwing himself into Hikaru’s arms, tears now streaming down his cheeks, “Don’t leave me, please, just a little bit longer and then we can be together.”

“Kei, no,” Hikaru pushed him aside, shaking his head, “I don’t want you joining me here, I want you to live and be happy. Please, if you won’t do it for yourself, then do it for me. Find someone new to love, build a family with them, don’t waste your life here with me.”

Inoo cried harder, pulling Hikaru back into his arms and burying his face in the others neck, “I love you,” he choked out, closing his eyes, and when he opened them, he was alone, surrounded by trash and dried blood on the walls.

Inoo collapsed onto the floor, hugging his knees to his chest as reality finally crashed down onto him.

The next morning, Inoo woke up with a stiff neck and dried tears on his cheeks. Getting up, he stumbled for a moment, almost falling back down but he caught himself on the counter top, hands gripping the linoleum surface.

Once he regained his bearings, he took a washcloth out of the cabinet above him and went to the sink, pushing aside the dirty dishes so he could wet it. When he was done, he went to the blood stained wall and with an empty heart, begin scrubbing at it, pushing past the soreness in his arms and back to get it all cleaned.

When he finished, he tossed the blood soaked washcloth into the sink and leaned against the fridge, ignoring his grumbling stomach as he began to pick up the broken pieces of glass around him, a few of them cutting his fingers, a reminder that he was still here, still alive.

“I’ll do it for you, Hikaru, until I can find a reason to do it for myself,” Inoo said out loud, hoping that wherever Hikaru was, he could hear his promise.

Knocking on door, Inoo shuddered and wrapped his arms further around himself, trying to dispel his shivers. It seemed impossibly freezing outside, due to the heavy rain and the fact that it was three in the morning, and yet here he was, waiting outside on Takaki’s porch.

He was going to kill the boy for calling him over, seriously.

The door opened with a creak and Takaki stepped aside, giving Inoo room to enter. When he was inside, Takaki closed the door and turned towards Inoo, his eyes downcast. “Sorry for calling you over,” he apologized, his hands crossed in front of him.

“Well, maybe you shouldn’t have then,” Inoo retorted, trying to resist his urge to reach out and strangle the other. Who the hell calls someone at two in the morning when it’s pouring rain and beg them to come over? “You know, you didn’t even tell me why you needed me to come over.”

“I’m sorry, I just,” Takaki sighed, scratching at his foreman awkwardly.

“You just?” Inoo prodded, taking a step towards Takaki, glaring at the older boy. “I left my nice, warm bed to come over here, without even asking why you needed me and now you just?” Inoo’s stopped, letting out a shakey breath as he closed his eyes.

“God, it’s so cold,” Inoo frowned, opening his eyes.

“Come on, let’s go to my room,” Takaki said, walking away from Inoo and down the hall. Following him with a tired sigh, his anger now depleted, Inoo entered Takaki’s room after the boy and quietly shut the door behind him.

Shrugging off his wet jacket, Inoo tossed it onto the floor and went towards Takaki’s dresser, pulling out a pair of sweatpants. Stripping down, Inoo put on the sweatpants and then grabbed a sweatshirt off of the floor, putting that on as well. Once he was finished, he joined Takaki on his bed, laying down next to him.

“Yuuyan, what’s going on?” Inoo asked, pulling the blankets over himself, still shivering, “This isn’t like you.”

“I know,” Takaki said, rolling over onto his side and facing Inoo, curling up next to the other. “I’m sorry,” Takaki apologized again, sniffling, and Inoo could see that there were tears gathering in his eyes, “I just kind of needed a friend, I guess.”

“Okay,” Inoo nodded, not prying any further, just holding Takaki close when the other began crying, whispering soothing words into his ear.
