Yabu was more than used to Hikaru and Inoo’s love/hate relationship; after all, he has been friends with the two for nearly half his life. Still, there were times where their ‘hate’ stages just got too out of hand, and he would have to resort to insane measures to keep the peace between the two.
Usually he would just distract Inoo until he calmed down enough, because really, Hikaru could never stay mad for long. Inoo was the type to hold grudges though, and unless his rage was soothed early on, his grudges could go on for weeks. Yabu accepted this odd role in his best friend’s relationship, but today, he just couldn’t handle it.
“You’re such a prick!” Inoo shouted, giving Hikaru another shove. Yabu could see Hikaru’s fists clenched by his sides, and the suppressed urge they had to connect with Inoo’s face. “Is it possible for you to take anything in life serious?!”
“I could ask you the same thing,” Hikaru retorted, glaring at the other, “Is it possible for you to just loosen up once in awhile and enjoy life? You know, get that stick out of your ass and smile once in awhile?”
“Fuck you!” Inoo shoved Hikaru again, and that was it, the younger boy raised his fist and punched Inoo in the jaw.
Yabu quickly moved, his arms holding Hikaru’s back. Takaki grabbed Inoo before the boy could start beating on Hikaru, his arms around his waist. “You two, I swear,” Yabu grunted, struggling to keep his stance as Hikaru tried to break free. Although he was taller than his friend, Hikaru easily beat him in the muscle department. “Keito!” Yabu shouted over to the younger boy, who rushed over and grabbed Hikaru, effectively holding him back.
“Damnit Keito!” Hikaru cursed, still angry but Yabu could see that he was already beginning to cool down. Inoo, on the other hand, looked ready to rip Hikaru’s head off and use it as a soccer ball.
“Guys, follow me,” Yabu said suddenly, and together the group left the room, Keito and Takaki dragging Hikaru and Inoo with them. Yabu led them towards a supply closet, and after opening the door, he gestured for Takaki and Keito to throw the pair in there.
“You sure?” Keito asked, his grip on Hikaru loose; the boy had stopped struggling along the way, and seemed much calmer now. Inoo still looked pissed off though, and was squirming frantically in Takaki’s arms.
“Yeah, throw them in there and let them settle their problems. My head hurts,” Yabu groaned and walked away, hearing a few shouts and a door slam. A moment later and Takaki and Keito caught up to him, looking at him curiously.
“They’ll figure it out,” Yabu brushed off their concern, “Besides, it’s not like Inoo can do any real damage to Hikaru. The boy has less muscle mass than a thirteen year old girl.”
Inoo had Hikaru pinned to the wall of the supply closet, his cheek pressed to the wall and his back facing Inoo. “Kei, I said I was sorry!” Hikaru mumbled, wincing when Inoo’s fingernails dug into his bare arms.
“I don’t care, that hurt when you punched me!” Inoo said, but there wasn’t much malice in his voice. “Although, I suppose I deserve it for pushing you.”
“I don’t like it when we fight like this,” Hikaru said quietly, looking at Inoo from the corner of his eye. “I’m sorry, really.”
Inoo sighed, shoulders deflating as he let Hikaru go. “Yeah, me too,” he said, and the two hugged, smiling as they made up. “You’re right though, I should relax sometimes.”
Hikaru nodded, “And I should be more serious, instead of always goofing off.”
Inoo patted Hikaru’s back, “And I think we both need to get back at Yabu for locking us in a supply closet.”
Hikaru smirked, “What do you have in mind?”
A few hours later and Yabu swore to himself, forgetting that Hikaru and Inoo were in the supply closet. Rushing out of the room, he ran towards the closet and threw open the door, seeing his two friends huddled together on the floor. “Guys, I am so sorry!”
“That’s okay!” Inoo grinned, and Yabu took a step back, eyes widening; he was expecting his friend to curse at him, and maybe even punch him a little, but to his surprise, Inoo just bounced up and strolled out of the closet, whistling to himself. Turning back towards Hikaru, he opened his mouth to question the other when he yelped, rubbing his now sore arm. “What the hell?” Yabu asked, wondering why the fuck Hikaru had just punched him.
“Do you know how long we were locked in there?” Hikaru seethed, glaring at Yabu, “What if something happened, and we were just- ah! You are so stupid sometimes!” Hikaru stomped away, arms crossed over his chest.
Yabu blinked, his mind whirling at a mile a minute, trying to comprehend the insanity of what just happened. It was like, Hikaru and Inoo had switched roles, or something.
Yabu frowned, and made his way back to the practice room.
Something was definitely, horribly, frighteningly wrong. Hikaru and Inoo remained ‘switch’, and after a week of this, Yabu was ready to tear his hair out. It wasn’t so bad when Hikaru would quietly sit at the table, reading some novel he picked up in the library, but when he got mad at the other members, he would either get back at them with some sarcastic remark (which almost always made Ryutaro tear up, when they were directed at him) or with his violent temper, which was getting pretty painful.
Inoo was just as bad, annoying everyone with his bad puns and inappropriately timed humor. The only time Inoo was tolerable was when he was cuddling the members of seven, or Hikaru, when he was reading his novel. Hikaru would always get frustrated though and tell Inoo to go do his homework, who in turn would cutely shrug and bounce away, finding random juniors to plot pranks with.
“This is too much,” Yabu shook his head, while Yamada and Yuto helped pick the feathers off of Chinen and Ryutaro. It seemed the two had been the latest victims of Inoo’s pranking, after they came into practice covered in honey and feathers.
He needed to put a stop to this insanity right now. Grabbing Hikaru by the wrist, he dragged the boy out of his seat and out of the room, ignoring his protests. Making his way towards the junior’s practice rooms, it didn’t take long for Yabu to find Inoo (who was hiding behind Tamamori, a bottle of honey in his hands) and grab the boy, dragging him along too. Once they reached the closest supply closet, he shoved the two inside, slamming the door and leaning against it.
“I am not letting you two out until you’re yourselves again!” Yabu shouted, receiving an angry string of curses from Hikaru and a loud chuckle from Inoo.
An hour later, Yabu opened the door, sighing at the mess inside. Both boys were covered in honey, their hair standing up in all directions and Hikaru had a duster stuck to his face.
“Okay, we’re done pretending to be each other,” Hikaru laughed, while Inoo glared at him, scratching at his sticky arms. “I am going to kill you,” Inoo shook his head angrily, storming out of the closet with Hikaru trailing after him, giggling and poking Inoo’s cheek.
Yabu smiled.
The world was in it’s right state again.
