summary: through the hardship Ryosuke goes through with his mother, he meets Inoo Kei, a new, fresh teacher at his high school, who provides an escape from his hard life.
part one part two The next week at school was a bit tense, although maybe it was just his imagination. He could have sworn though that Sensei was staring at him, but every time he tried to catch him, the man had already looked away. It was rather unnerving, and he couldn’t figure out why his teacher would be mad. So what if he didn’t want to go to college? He had better things to be doing, things that were much more important than wasting a ton of money and working hard towards a useless degree for several years.
Packing up his bag, Ryosuke walked to the train station alone, since Mirai was sick and skipped classes that day. He wished he could go visit her, but if he was caught inside the Shida home, her father would probably cut off his head and mount it on the wall, like some hunting prize.
Repressing a shiver at the gruesome thought, Ryosuke hopped the train and sat back, listening to his music to pass the time. When he got home, his mother had already left for work, and so he changed clothes, put on his contacts and grabbed his keys, heading out for the evening.
It probably would have been better to stay home, as he had a lot of homework, but sitting around in that empty house always gave him the creeps. Everything creaked during the night, and he was always worried someone might be trying to break in. It wouldn’t be surprising, considering where they lived, so he preferred to spend his nights outside of the house, while his mother was at work.
Going to Harajuku this time, Ryosuke wandered down the lit street, admiring all the people out. Everyone looked really happy tonight, all smiles and laughter, and it made him feel good inside, a warm happiness bubbling inside of him. Turning the corner, Ryosuke was about to enter a shop when he heard someone calling his name.
Turning around, he was surprised to see his Sensei just a few feet ahead of him, wearing the jeans he had picked out for the older man. Hot damn, Ryosuke couldn’t help but eye his teacher’s legs, and how good they looked in those jeans. “Yamada, what a pleasant surprise. How are you tonight?”
“Good,” Ryosuke answered, his throat a little dry as he tore his eyes away from his teacher’s body, looking at his flawless face instead. Wait, no, bad, Ryosuke ran a hand through his hair, trying to shake away these inappropriate thoughts.
“You alright?” he bent down, peering into Ryosuke’s eyes. “Have you eaten?”
“No,” Ryosuke said, just as his stomach gave a small rumble.
“This is highly unprofessional of me,” Sensei looked around, his hands on his hips, and then turned back to Ryosuke, “But I’m meeting up with a friend for dinner, would you like to come?”
Ryosuke wanted to say no, but his stomach felt impossibly empty, since he hadn’t eaten all day. Nodding with a small blush on his cheeks, Ryosuke followed the man into a restaurant across the street, the two of them heading towards the back of the place. Once Sensei spotted his friend, the two sat down, and said friend eyed Ryosuke curiously.
“A student of mine,” he answered, “Yamada, Takaki, Takaki, Yamada,” he paused, grabbing the glass of water the waiter had just set down on their table, taking a small sip. “He hasn’t eaten yet, and so I invited him to join us. I’m sure that’s alright, yes?”
“I’m cool,” Takaki shrugged, giving Ryosuke a grin, “So, you’re unfortunate enough to have this idiot as a teacher, eh- Ow! Kei, don’t hit so hard,” Takaki whined, rubbing the spot on his arm where Sensei had just punched.
“Don’t say stupid things in front of my student,” he glared, and then sighed, looking over at Ryosuke, “I’m sorry you had to see that.”
“It’s fine,” Ryosuke laughed, his cheeks hurting a little, “It’s interesting to see you outside of school, Sensei.”
“Oh no, none of that~” Takaki wagged his finger at Ryosuke, “Call this idiot Inoo, alright? Hearing him referred to as Sensei makes me want to vomit.”
“You are such a,” Sensei stopped, muttering darkly under his breath. “You do have a point though. Yamada, outside of school grounds, I give you permission to call me Inoo.”
“Thank you Sens- I mean Inoo,” Ryosuke grabbed his water, taking a long drink.
The evening went very well, in Ryosuke’s opinion. He had a lot of fun hanging out with Inoo and his friend, and he definitely enjoyed the free meal he got out of it. Exiting the restaurant with the two older men, Ryosuke gratefully accepted Takaki’s number, which he had to write on his palm, since he had no cell phone. Waving goodbye to the eccentric man, with promises to call sometime in the future, Ryosuke rejoined Inoo and the two began to walk down the street.
“Are your parents okay with you being out so late?” Inoo suddenly asked, turning towards Ryosuke with a concerned expression.
“Well, my mother works nights, and she doesn’t get home until the morning,” actually, his mother’s shift ended at around three in the morning, but she usually stayed out until seven, drinking at whatever sleezy bar was still open.
“What about your father then?” Inoo asked, and Ryosuke felt himself freeze up.
“My father isn’t really in the picture, so I don’t think he cares.”
“I’m sorry,” Inoo patted his back, looking like he wish he could’ve taken that question back. “Well, it’s late, would you like a ride back home?”
Ryosuke opened his mouth, and then paused, feeling torn. A ride sounded wonderful, since he didn’t have any change on him for train ride home. It wasn’t a terribly long walk, but it was dark outside, and Ryosuke didn’t want to wander down his street at this hour. On the other hand though, he didn’t want Inoo to see the dangerous area he lived in.
“Come on, I’m giving you a lift,” the decision made for him, Ryosuke followed Inoo to his car, sliding into the passenger seat just as Inoo slid into the driver’s. Starting the car, Ryosuke directed Inoo to his house, trying to hide his shame when they arrived.
Inoo made no comment though about his house, or his crappy neighborhood. He simply told him to get some rest, and that he’d see him Monday at school. Thanking Inoo for the ride, Ryosuke jumped out of the car and up to his porch, opening the door and quickly ducking inside, locking all the locks behind him. Making sure the windows were locked too, Ryosuke undressed and crawled into bed, trying to ignore his paranoia as the house creaked around him.
