would everyone post their favorite fairy tale growing up? it doesn't have to be well known or a disney movie or anything like that..it can be completely obscure and something i've never, ever heard of...i'm just really interested. thanks.

hrmmmm favourite childhood fairytale, eh?? that takes me back like, super far... haha ;p uuuuumm.... hrm. ::ponder ponder ponder:: well, I really loved the Land Before Time when I was a little kid... and I love love loved the Lion King too. Still do ;) Those aren't really fairytales though, are they?? heh. I also liked Sleeping Beauty - that's kind of a fairy tale, yes? :D Probably one of my more favourite Disney-based-on-actual-fairytales movies ;)

thanks colure!! :) i love all those too. sleeping beauty is what i would consider a "fairy tale" i think...but the others are great. sleeping beauty is one of my abs. favs too :D :D i've seen the play and the ballet and everything...i just love it. i was traumatized when i learned the real story disney interpreted is much darker and rather profane :o/ as are most original fairy tales. anyway, thanks.

hehe, yea, the movie's good; i was just looking more for tales in literature (which that one originally is; so it's all cool).
well, i came across a picture from one of my favs as a child that i'd forgotten about (the twelve dancing princesses) and it kind of inspired me to write (which is a huge deal b/c not only have i had MAJOR writer's block for almost a week now, but i haven't written anything creatively for pleasure all semester) and i got to thinking about how fairy tales were such a big part of my life and one of the reasons that i originally wanted to be an author..so i kind of just wanted to know, to hear some suggestions for good ones i haven't read and remember some that i'd forgotten. that's basically it :)

I liked Cinderella. I like the idea of the girl with nothing getting a happy ending and being content through it all.

Or, oh, i remember a specific tale being cute and was reminded of it when seeing Joe's play the other night. The story of the boy and the jellyfish--where a boy was throwing jellyfish back into the water. A man inquires as to why he's doing that because it wont make a difference since there are so many. The boy throws one into the water and says "it made a difference to that one."

I always thought that one was cute.

Well let's see. The first thing fairytale oriented I can really remember is /Into the Woods/ (although its not really a fairy tale in and of itself the baker and his wife was an original tale invented for the show.. That would have to be my favorite. Other good ones:

the ORIGINAL Cinderella (not the disney, also not really kid friendly)
the Asanti the Spider stories (I don't remeber if the name of the spider is correct but I know it started with an A)
