There can be few better ways to spend an idle moment than to sit in the park. Of course, some parks are better than others: grass to sit on (or more often, in my case, lay on) is quite often the most welcome option, and signs warning to stay off the lawn, smiling tufts of grass with the words pelouse interdite, as in Paris, are to be either scoffed at or ignored. At your own peril, you might advise, but nothing ever happens of this unauthorized lazing. After a blissful half-hour one might see a functionary of some sort make some sort of motion in your direction--'Off the grass, please
