Plastic has been an issue for years. Sad truth. We also have issues with old computer parts and electronics leeching lead and mercury into the landfills and poisoing our water. The best alternative is to live your life the best you can and teach your kids the importance of preserving the earth. Reduce, reuse, recycle. Properly dispose of your hazardous waste.
Congress has been hearing about the environment for years. We all know congress moves at a snail's pace alerting them is good and but buying alternatives is even more important. Did you know there was a company that invested into recycling plastic into yarn and fiber? No one was interested and they went under. I haven't seen a biodegradable corn pen in a long time. The entire pen takes about five to seven years to degrade and only release natural gases and particles since it was made out of corn. Use your dollars to voice your opinion, that is the best way to have the companies hear you.
My mother worked at Monsanto for around 16 years where she worked around plastic polymers and pesticides and stuff like that. When she left, they were like "oh, btw, your offspring might have reproductive cancer, okthnxbye."
