Have you checked what's listed in resolv.conf?
My DNSstuff membership expired (it's now $79 a yr, so it'll be a little bit before I renew), but I can tell you what I got if it helps:
# dig clanspum.net
; <<>> DiG 9.2.4 <<>> clanspum.net
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 62853
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 2, ADDITIONAL: 2
;; QUESTION SECTION:

;; ANSWER SECTION:

;; AUTHORITY SECTION:

resolv.conf on which machine?
... oh, it's not obvious that this is a global problem. Right, fixing that. Thanks.

Where is the DNS hosted? Qwest DSL and Cisco DSL modems re-write the TTL to 0 and change all IPs to be the source IP.
Secondly, don't forget to update your serial if you make a change.
Lastly, BIND, seriously? ;) I abandoned that years ago.

It's hosted in a hosting facility, who had better not be doing any DNS rewriting :)
What are you using instead of BIND? Don't tell me djb :)

Plan 9 DNS? LDAPDNS? Wishful thinking?
I love that nobody has anything you haven't already ruled out. It's just like tech support!
I suppose now you call Paul Vixie and offer to buy him a donut if he can fix it.

LDAPDNS??!? What are you and what have you done to my Dan?
I've got a potential solution going, see my edit to the post.

I like the results of my latest run

It's now updated enough to see ns.clanspum.net correctly, but not the A record
(with DiG 9.4.3-P2)
