Goddammit, Virginia

So Virginia's state election gave us a new Republican governor this year, Bob McDonnell. At the start I had no quarrel with the man (despite an inherent dislike of most conservative policies), and was actually hopeful that he would make good on the address he gave in January that he would focus on unemployment issues rather than a social agenda ( Read more... )

So apparently now it's "Virginia is for lovers... as long as those lovers do not have the same genitalia."

That is un-freaking-believeable.

I will never understand how this sort of bigotry is able to take public office.

Disgusting, that guy... Hopefully no one will listen to his "advice." You'd think it would be taken to a higher power since states, you know, shouldn't allow people to be discriminated against.

Seriously never trust the GOP. Same-sex marriage is legal in my state and now two R legislatures want to take out all of the wording in existing laws referring to and/or protecting people who are gay or transgender. Because when the Supreme Court struck down the law banning gay marriage last year they apparently referred to these laws. So these jackasses want to take away those laws so they can debate same-sex marriage in the house of representatives. They really don't care who they hurt.

Right? I wish the federal government would step in and set something down. They're trying to right now with ENDA, but who knows if that will go through.

...Ugh, that's awful. Bastards.

Yeah, it's gross. And these are the people that are always like think of the chiiiiiiildrrrruuun, but part of what they want to do would take away school's anti-bullying measures in regards to homosexuality. But apparently same-sex marriage is worse than not protecting students... not to mention people being discriminated against or even killed for their sexuality. Probably these two wingnuts will be ignored, hopefully, but there's way too many people like them out there.
