A/N: Guess who got bored in the wee hours of the morning?
Terms and species:
Beldam- a woman who has been fed the bone marrow of a vampire in order to exert control and share power without conversion; may or may be voluntary. Becomes the daylight eyes, ears, and mouth of the vampire (eg. Allison). Conversion to vampire results in a belladonna, resulting in a powerful type of blood called the Mother's Strain. (eg. Lady Chandler)
Child-any vampire created from another (Other Father/Mother). Lost- Children that have no makers. This only happens when the Parent has been murdered or has died. Children have a blood call or telepathic bond to their Makers and not necessarily remain in that rank. A Parent can make a Comrade/Chevalier bond with 5 Children at maximum but only one Mate bond. The only difference between Chevalier and Mate is how far the call can be heard (Mates can be heard from any point in the world)
Soul Resonance-the ability to hear and/or affect a person's essence or soul. Most vampires, as well as other creatures, have the ability to mold minds but not all can have this. It is passed down through blood (maker-child) but it might be different from the donor's. There 4 main types of resonance but they're all detected the same way by listening and they are channeled by various mediums:
1. Pathos- the most encompassing, is the ability to hear the person's mind and manipulate thoughts and memories. It can be used to cast an illusion called a veil onto the victims, can range from a few seconds to years. Only the Mythos as well as the Mala'ūna clans in Bombay (Mumbai) are powerful enough to cast lifelong veils onto their targets. The channel are the eyes, causing them to completely whiten and glow.
2. Ardeur- the manipulation of one's emotions to incite and infuse lust into the victim. It can range from an infatuation all the way to full-blown obsession. This power was rumored to have been given to Helen, therefore, it is referred as the Blood Conqueror. The channel are the lips and hands.
3. Serenity-the channeling of emotions through presence or voice, mostly as a calming agent. It grants the user the ability to soothe even the most savage beasts and it's the basis for the strongest Call between user and wereanimal. Requires a calm and clear state of mind but it can be used in times of distress. The channel is the voice, augmented if the person sang in their previous life.
4. Necromancy- the act of resurrecting a person by implanting the soul into the body. Only the strongest of vampires and criatura, can access this soul resonance, mostly heads of covens and clans, and their first heirs. The results are referred to as dolls and can be made with or without sacrifice.
Dead Man's Blood-Blood from a corpse at least 5 hours old, highly toxic to both vampires and humans. Causes extreme pain to the victim and used to torture criaturas by hunters. Can only be counteracted with aglaophotis, a substance that some call it worse than the malady.
Call Animal-a werebeast that is at the lidè's (User) beck and call. These can be voluntary or involuntary, with or without Serenity but those that are voluntary and with this are usually stronger and can be called from a distance. If done by a vampire in a coven, the others can use this call but it runs the risk of no response.
Notes:
*Mythos are beings that exist since before civilization and are the most powerful in the land. These include the pagan gods, angels and demons. Very rarely does a Creature/Criatura can become Mythos, mostly out of strain on the bodies to meet the requirements. There are exceptions to this rule.
*Angels and demons do exist but they are corporeal beings, therefore they live and die. They also have the particular trait of reincarnation, in which an angel or a demon, is reborn into humans but remember nothing. This heritage can be unlocked, even if the human in question has become a creature of the night. Angels are said to be the origin of Serenity, passing it down to the world, while Demons are the source of Necromancy. Both can live on Earth for exactly 350 years but return home before that. It is taboo for either to become infatuated with humans and the punishment is death in various cases. Their most notable trait is that of fully functional wings that radiate either Grace or Damnation.
------>Note: Hope's research reveals that most if not all Children of the Night can trace back their lines to the angel Leliel, the Angel of the Night. (See Leliel)
*There are many types of werecreatures, ranging from wolves to hyenas. These are passed down from parent-child or through bite. Most prefer the former and refrain from biting the general populace. Some, like the Siam werecat tribes in New York, were hunted out of extinction due to their pelts (yep, some rich old widow's wearing a human coat). Reptiles are regarded as naga/medusas and mostly live in what would become the Arizona territory.
*Vampires are mostly that of the classic trope; avoiding the sun, drink blood, ect. Not all vampires have soul resonance but all have telepathy, enthralling, speed, strength, and a rapid healing. Certain powers are acquired through age or drinking blood from an older vampire/mythos. House is a good example of this due to having Chandler's Mother Strain and Lisa's Mneme blood running through his veins. This makes him "cheat" the age gap required for more advanced skills such as telekinesis, limited hovering and a larger veil. His only two creations carry 50% the potency of the mixture in them, making Jane a more than capable seducer and explains Jimmy's spontaneous Calling of the werehyenas.
*Hunters are a loose affiliation, contrary to the Slayers that are a matriarchal structure. The highest ranked Slayer is the Regina, while her closest lieutenant is the Renata. Slayers are predominantly female and tend to hunt in pairs to safeguard the return of at least one. Hunters are predominantly male but there are exceptions and require no bloodline. Slayers are born to one of 5 lines; two of which are in America. Both, if properly trained, can have enhanced strength and the ability to hear (the most diluted version of soul resonance) as well as rapid healing.
*Leliel's Bloodline is the most powerful entity among the creatures of the Night. The legend is said the Ruler of the Night blessed a knife and nicked a bat and a dog. Whatever animal they bit, they would become the original animal for the werecreatures and the vampires.
Ruling Entities:
The Church-Specifically the Roman Catholic Church (no flaming, mun's Catholic but accepts her faith's indiscretions in history). Father Eric Robertson is the corrupt yet powerful representation of the Church while Jimmy is the humble servant paragon. Any ordained priest listed in the canon can grant Sanctuary to anyone requesting it. The Church has the authority in exorcisms and the summon of angels.
The State- The human government, regarded by the creatures as such. House and Jane are disdainful of human law and openly mocked it in their previous exploits of Innsomouth and later the losses in the American Revolutionary War. The State is unaware of the supernatural world and oblivious.
The Slayer Regina- Elizabeth Summers, located in what was the California territory.
Covens-Vampires have no ruling body but authority is dispersed between major covens, in which Other Parents pass on certain traits. House's maker, Tritter, came from the Bathory bloodline, making for nearly insatiable blood lust. With the purge orchestrated by Gregory and Chandler, there are barely any survivors of this bloodline in America.
