drwilltx Prompt # 11:
Darling, stop confusing me,
With your wishful thinking.
Hopeful embraces,
Don’t you understand?
I have to go through this,
I belong to here where no-one cares,
And no-one loves.
No light no air to live in,
A place called hate,
The city of fear.

Embrace
Dinner had been nothing short of a disaster.
House had insulted her and made her feel smaller than the salt shaker on their table all within a span of a few sentences.
Cameron sat staring at him in stunned silence for several moments, before she turned her attention to her menu.
The rest of their dinner had passed with long moments of uncomfortable silence and the odd small talk.
At least he was nice enough to still drive her home after all that. Cameron was planning on calling a cab, but House had given her a stern look when she voiced her intention. She shrugged her shoulders and walked with him to his car.
The drive to her apartment was quiet, the only sounds being from the road and the radio that was playing big band music. She didn’t live that far away from the restaurant, and that was probably a blessing for both of them.
The evening had not gone like she had expected it to at all, but then again, Cameron wasn’t sure what she had expected. The odd joke at her expense maybe, but she certainly hadn’t anticipated a tirade on why she had “chosen” him and why he was so inadequate.
House pulled his car into the parking lot of her apartment complex and shut off the engine. He slowly climbed out, and rather than wonder if he was going to open her door for her, Cameron got out of the car.
She walked around to his side and they stood staring at each other awkwardly, until House looked down at the ground. Cameron sighed and closed the distance between them.
House was caught off guard and looked at her, studying her face for some sort of clue.
Cameron reached out and wrapped her arms around his waist, giving him a tight hug. It was as if she didn’t ever want to let go. She breathed in the scent of his cologne, wondering if she would ever get the chance to smell it again.
House stood there, his whole body frozen. Finally, her warmth defrosted him slightly and he put an arm around her to return the embrace.
She let go and stepped back, gazing up into his eyes.
“Thank you for dinner.” She said, a soft smile crossing her face. She turned and headed toward her apartment.
All House could do was watch.
