Prompt # 20:
And it's beginning to get to me
That I know more of the stars and sea
Than I do of what's in your head
Barely touching in our cold bed

Are you beginning to get my point
They're always fighting with aching joints
It's doing nothing but tire us out
No one knows what this fight's about

Snow Patrol - It's Beginning to Get to Me

No Perfect Moments
Chapter 2 : Empty

The sky is pitch black. The lack of moonlight makes the darkness feel like a blanket. You unlock the door to your apartment. It is after 2 in the morning. You blindly make your way to the bedroom. Your knees graze the side of the bed and you collapse forward, wrapping the comforter around your body like a shield.

You briefly consider turning on the lamp on your nightstand, but light isn't what you need. You desire warmth, a mind free from too many thoughts, and an apology. None of these will find you tonight, no matter how many different ways you try to curl up in your bed.

Your heart is heavy. Tired. As you replay what happened an hour earlier, you can feel the tears returning to your eyes. You know he didn't mean it, but you can't let it go either.

It has been a long time since you've slept alone. You're not sure you remember how.

The room is pitch black and the silence haunts you like a nightmare. You didn't try to stop her from leaving because you knew she needed to be alone. You were an ass as usual and the fact that you are feeling guilty about it keeps your body away from sleep.

You turn on your left side, staring into the darkness. She isn't staring back at you. Instead all you feel are the cold sheets as you reach out. She's only been gone an hour. The only remaining evidence that she was in your bed is the damp tear stains on the pillow.

There is a loneliness pulling at you, something you haven't felt for awhile. It reminds you of Before Her; something you never want to repeat. You're not even sure that you have gotten used to her yet, never mind facing the possibility of your life without her.

Something has to give, because pushing her away has become too tiring.
