Prompt # 19 : Coffee

Fighting

A brand new bag of coffee beans and Cameron was fighting with it. She tugged at the seal of the bag, but even her best efforts weren't enough.

House was watching her from the hallway just outside the conference room. He was vaguely amused by her struggle. How simple it would be if she just grabbed a pair of scissors to cut open the bag. But he knew she wouldn’t do that. It was far more entertaining to watch her fight with a bag of coffee beans than to suggest a solution.

The thought had occurred to her to grab a pair of scissors from the desk, but she could swear she felt the seal on the bag begin to give. Sighing, she put the coffee beans down on the counter and shook her hands vigorously. Cameron was not going to let a stupid bag of coffee beans win.

House silently stepped into the conference room, still watching Cameron. His amusement was growing with each second.

She picked up the bag again and gave a very sharp tug to the seam. Apparently that one last tug was all the bag needed. It ripped open, sending a storm of coffee beans all over the room. Cameron growled in frustration, tossing the now empty bag into the trash can.

“Cameron.” House spoke as he stood behind her.

She inhaled sharply and gripped the counter with her hands. “Do you have to sneak up on people like that?” She asked, glancing over her shoulder. Her voice was laced with defeat.

“Only when they are struggling to open a bag of coffee beans.” He replied with a smirk.

Cameron’s face turned red with embarrassment, realizing that he had been watching her the entire time. “Yeah, thanks.” She turned around to face him, folding her arms across her chest.

“Aren’t you going to clean up the mess you’ve made?” House asked, clearly enjoying Cameron’s discomfort.

She frowned, “Right.” As she moved past him, House grabbed her arm. She looked up at him, wondering what he was up to.

“Cameron, the coffee maker is broken.” He whispered into her ear.

She shook herself free of his grip and stalked out of the room. She could hear House chuckling on her way out.
