I recced In High Seas along with Asphyxiation for crack_van a while back, so I am thrilled that it's being considered for the HoF. TBH I wish Asphyxiation could be added to the nomination, so both could be considered together. Asphyxiation has a brilliant, original premise, while In High Seas is more conventional. That's okay though, because In High Seas is just as moving, insightful and well written as its prequel.

nieded paints an understated and compelling picture of House cast adrift without Wilson. The sense of loss and yearning underpins the story but never overwhelms it; it's equally balanced by the end with hope. Edith the B&B owner is perceptive and sympathetic. I'd definitely vote for this with no reservations.

As a piece of fic, In High Seas works effectively, and is a well-crafted piece of prose by any measurement. However, its strengths as a fic are also its weaknesses: it cannot stand on its own and requires Asphyxiation to make itself a complete story. As such, I do not think it belongs in the Library.
