A cold hello to everyone out there - at least its cold where I am -9 Fahrenheit on Monday morning, -7 on Tuesday. Brrr. Let’s read something and stay warm shall we?
A couple of quick things before we get to the Hall of Fame fic discussion.
First, for those of you who also visit TWoP and are frustrated about the fanfic discussion thread being shut down there, feel free to bring up the same topics here. I promise I won’t shut them down. (Except for those of the troll variety.) For those of you who weren’t around back then, Housefic_Meta actually launched the first time the fanfic thread was shut down on TWoP as an alternative.
Second, I just wanted to bring you up to date on the upcoming fics in the Hall of Fame schedule. If your favorites aren’t there, just drop us a note.
Right now, we’ve got “Grieving” by Daasgirl the week of Feb. 12, “Paladin of Empathy” by Perspi the week of Feb. 19, “My Fathers’ Son” by Deelaundry the week of Feb. 26 and “No Little Charity” for the week of March 5. We’ve also got another fic in the hopper, and are just awaiting author approval of the process.
And for this week we have:
Title and Link: True At The Time
http://community.livejournal.com/house_cuddy/384286.html Author: Miss Parker
Rating: R
Synopsis: She wanted a little baby with blue eyes so badly it made her short of breath.
Nominated by: Zulu
Why should this be in the Hall of Fame? The bittersweet use of details. The poignancy. The House/Cuddy undertones of seriousness.
Sample from the text:
Things started happening. Stacy left, and then there was the ketamine and the eight weeks of him showing up at her house at odd hours sweaty and pestering her for a water bottle. Then there were the fertility treatments and he’d told everyone in the hospital - including patients that she was pregnant. He’d apparently been convincing too, since the president of the university had hauled her into his office to demand if the rumor was true. That had been embarrassing. He’d convinced Cameron for five whole minutes that he was the father. Granted, Cameron (though a perfectly respectable doctor) was kind of a ditz, but still, she couldn’t let that one go.
