Why does this fic belong in the Hall of Fame?
Confession time: This was my prompt for H/W fest. [Mod Note: That's from jdr, just so you're not confused.] Mer took the story prompt in a completely different direction than I had envisioned. She took a prompt that could have easily become the clichéd ‘Julie Wilson is evil’ and made it realistic and touching. House shows his concern for Wilson without getting too mushy. Likewise, Wilson reaction is so in character.
Sample: Everybody lied. It was House's mantra, his core belief. He could lie fluently when he wanted, when brutal honesty didn't serve his purpose. But now, when he needed a lie the most, he couldn't find one. He just stared at Wilson, until Wilson stepped forward and tried to take the file from his hand. House held on. He couldn't lie, but he couldn't let Wilson find out from a piece of paper.
