I was actually just talking with Darcy about RFID tags and how scary they are. These things are not fancy new gadgets, but they've been putting them in products for years (In fact, at Walmart they are mandatory at the crate level). What is scary to me is that they basically allow you to be tracked without your knowledge. Someone could scan you at a distance and know that you bought your shoes at a Target down the street two months ago. The idea of course is that it makes inventory super easy for companies, but the result is that all this information about you is getting tied into databases, and someone with access to them can find out things about you that should be private.

Yuck.

"BUT IF YOU ARE DOING NOTHING WRONG YOU HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE."

Blargag. Stupid RFID stuff. I heard/read somewhere the idea that in the future, the PJD (Personal Jammer Device) will become standard--a small piece of electronic equipment that jams/whatever all RFID thingamabobs in the vicinity of your person. I would not be at *all* surprised. Because really, what legal use *can* people have for these things once the item has been sold? No good use, in my opinion.
