Went to the dentist today. Went to the dentist two months ago as well....and CAVITIES were had. Could not get them filled rightthenandthere, so found myself a dentist up in Falls Church. Well, a sea change has occurred in the realm of my professional oral care.

Just start drinking all your food, it will save the wear and tear on the teeth, right?

I say this not knowing how much water you drink in a day, but one of the things Kelley got taken to task for by our dentist was having "thick saliva." This means she was drinking too much non-water substances, mainly Gatorade (but could be any hypertonic substance). This led to a cavity or two and a number of "I'm not going to say I told you so" comments from our mother.

darling chelsea...

i don't exactly know what insurance you have or anything

but unless i am completely confused, which is always a possibility

...you probably have a PPO plan, which means that that "list" you referred to is the list of practitioners that are covered by your insurance. period, end of sentence. and if you aren't going to select your medical and dental providers from that list, well, you really might as well just not have any insurance.

again, i don't know what plan you have, but i feel pretty confident you could find a competent dentist in the area that is covered. is it too late to attempt that? it's just that it seems to me that you definitely will end up spending in the triple-digits for a service that you have, essentially, already paid for (when you paid for your insurance).

It's possible that even PPO dentists aren't entirely covered, though. When the health insurance changed back in the 80's or 90's (forget which) and their old dentist was no longer covered, my parents stuck with him from a combination of "he's really awesome" and "they barely cover any of our dental anyway, so why bother changing dentists?"

Not Chelsea's situation, but something to think about anyway. Definitely investigate the possibilities of getting the procedure done at other dentists! The possibly hundreds of dollars of savings are definitely worth a few minutes' time of research!

Maybe you got two new cavities in the past two months? Some people just have ghetto-weak teeth. My friend Katie actually carries her toothbrush around to brush three times a day, but has cavities practically everywhere in her mouth.

Anyway if you have dental insurance at all, I'd use it. Unfortunately I don't :'( I'm like 3 months overdue for a cleaning and should really find someone up here to do it, but life is so miserable busy.

3 months! Ha! I laugh at your responsibleness!

And I recommend Dr. Michael Tisdelle. He's awesome. Tell them I sent you if you go. They're by the U-Heights apartment complex out on Ivy Road, so very close to UVA-land.
