Many of you might know my opinion on name-changing upon marriage. For those of you who don't, let me explain. The "pull letters out of a Scrabble bag" technique is still the best.

And I JUST got the name of the post. Way to go for an obscure joke my parents made that only you and I would understand.

I pretty much agree with what you said. Ever since I can remember this fact of American society has bothered. In some ways, being an actor makes this a little easier for me, because should I even chose to get married, I can just simply explain that, "Oh, can't change my name, this is what Equity knows me as!"

Interesting to note, isn't it also much more common for a son to be given his father's first name, than for a daughter to be given her mother's first name? My mother, my grandmother, and I all have the name Charlene, but off of the top of my head I can't think of anyone else I know who is named after their mother.

Love this part of the article:
Mike Salinger, who said it cost him about $350 to change his name legally, concedes he changed his name "because I'm a big ole granola liberal and I wanted to tweak the tradition while showing my wife I love her."

Random trivia:

In Brokeback Mountain, Ennis del Mar's daughter is named after his wife, Alma. Both parents call their daughter "Junior" instead of Alma.

That's a very Mormon name. At least according to one of my coworkers.

Also, I think that hyphenation is a little silly (mostly from the being unable to fill out forms aspect), but I won't knock it since it works for lots of people.

But I agree with you.
