Also... probably not the best time to tell him that the past tense of the verb "to cast" is "cast", not "casted".

I was going to figure that this was one of those special cases like the verb "to hang" where the past tense can be "hanged", but only if you're talking about killing someone with a rope around their neck. Perhaps industry specific use of the word "cast" can have the past tense of "casted"... it all depends on usage, really.
