My desktop computer has stopped giving me a right click menu when I right click on something in many programs (most noticeably the web) -- I've restored, but still get no love from the right click. What puzzles me is the right click feature works in some, but not all, programs ( Read more... )

That's very weird :). Have you tried a different mouse? Or try going into control panel -> Mouse and see a) what mouse it thinks that you have (make sure that you have the latest drivers for your mouse) and b) if any of the configuration options make a difference.

Is it consistent? Does right-click never work in the exact same applications? Does your keyboard have a context menu key (usually between the right ALT key and the right Ctrl key, which many folks never use :))? Does that work in the applications where your right mouse click does not?

It works for **some** things in the application, but not all things.
Where I used to be able to right click on a word in Word to copy, cut, paste, etc no longer works, but other right click functions do - say on the toolbar to add or hide menus
In the web browser (Firefox) I could highlight and right click on text to copy it previously, now I have to keyboard shortcut to copy
The right mouse button works as usual on the desktop.

I uninstalled/reinstalled, no change.
And sadly, my keyboard is the bottom layer basic toy model
The esc key cost extra :)

Do you have a spare mouse floating around to verify that it's not a hardware issue? (Maybe borrow a housemate's mouse for 10 minutes?)

That sounds very odd. You run anti-virus and anti-spyware software?

You betcha yer sweet patootie I do.
I will have to see if I can grab another mouse for a trial -- tho it puzzles that the right click DOES work in certain places (like the toolbar). It just is cranky inside.
