Nice! Very helpful.

If I may ask, did you shoot the background yourself? It's a very good photograph :)

I'm having the worst time following this tutorial. Last week, I tried following it on and off for 13 hours. I was pretty stressed, so I can attribute part of that time to thinking I broke photoshop, when really I was clicking on the wrong thing. (I was trying to control click on the actual text, not the layer. Boy did I feel dumb when I figured THAT out.)

So I'm getting hung up around step 3/4. I don't know if it's the style font I'm using, but I've used different fonts, and didn't get past step 2. I really want this to work, but, having a whore of a time doing it. I'm planning on attempting again today.

What's happening is that when I contract the text, it selects a VERY small portion, even though I set it at 2 pixels. While it looks cool, it's not what I'm going for. The white that gets filled in is not very much, just the slivers that are selected. When I blur the text, it just looks rough, and not at all like the soft cotton candy effect that is step 4. Any ideas?

You need a fairly thick, bold type for this. I would try something simple like Arial Black set to about 200 - 250 + pixels. Try that and let me know.

I'm now trying this with a 72 point times new roman, in bold, and getting seriously hung up at the chrome/bevel emboss point. When I do get it to work, when I get to the contract 5 points, I get the "50% of the area is not selected, would not show" error. I'm really not knowing what to do. :\ Going back a few times to try this, if I'm missing something, but I can't figure what I'm missing. I'm also a lil confused as to what layer I'm supposed to do certain things on, so doing a bit of trial and error. (What's boffing me is that merge visible, too, as I don't have a background layer to hide, really.)

Seriously big, sweetie - like 250 or 300. Then do this - go back through the steps v e r y s l o w l y... If there is any part of these steps that you're confused by or is not immediately understood, let me know and I'll sign on to Yahoo IM and walk you through it later - I'll be available most of the afternoon. No worries, I struggled with it for a bit too at first, you WILL get it down pat!
