Banksy: Graffiti Terrorista

Sep 30, 2006 02:06

This tutorial is in honor of my favorite living artist, the anonymous urban graffiti guerilla known only as Banksy. You'll need some of the stencil fonts, hi-res images, and brushes from this post, so download and install them before you get started or even open Photoshop. Be creative and make statements, that's the whole point. My apologies for ( Read more... )

can anyone help?
i'm a total photoshop n00b and my "help" thing isnt working for some reason

i'm trying to make an LJ icon with text over the top of a picture
so far so good
however, no matter how bright the colour of the text is or how large or bold i make it, it's always unreadable in the standard 100x100 pixel size of an icon
i was thinking maybe i could somehow outline the text in black or white to make it stand out more
is there a tool i can use to do this?
or can anyone help with any other ideas?

sorry i'm so dumb!

I always start with icons at 500 X 500 px, then after they are finished I resize them. Try that and see, you might want to also add a simple Drop Shadow to your text layer in the Layer Styles part of the Layers Palette - it's the icon at the bottom that's a black circle with a lowercase "F" in it.

I find you everywhere! Goodness. :)

I agree, an outer glow or a dropshadow helps make your text pop out...
Also, the smaller the font the more annoying it gets!

The best tiny font Ive ever used is "Silkscreen", when you use it in 7pt (with no aliasing on the text)

You can see it here:

I love it, and use it a lot.

Aloha,
Can I ask you a question I know you have most likely been asked this before how is the easiest way to turn any picture into silhouettes with a white background and a black silhouette. People have tried to explain it to me but they forget I'm a idiot when it comes to photoshop and they explain it to me like I've been doing this for years. I'm okay with photoshop but I am no way a expert. I have photoshop 7.0 I know that's not the newest program but this is what I got. Can you break it down for me when you have the time.
MAHALO :)

If you first desaturate the color (convert to B&W) by pressing Ctrl + Shift + U, you can then adjust the levels of an image by pressing Ctrl + L and playing with the sliders to get better contrast. At this point I would then press Ctrl + I to inverse the image. Then, in the menu, go to Image/Adjustments/Gradient Map and click directly on the gradient in the window - when the pop up window comes up, click and drag on the bottom left slider until you get the result you want, then click OK. Going back to reinverse (Ctrl + I) the image should give a clearer result.

Seeing what you've put here, I can safely say that it's well beyond my scope. If you do a search on Photoshop Tutorials, you'll find TONS of stuff. Sorry I couldn't be more help!
