The Grand Experiment

Here's the due South vid that I mentioned a month or so ago! I couldn't post it on youtube because of the song used. This is my first time using MediaFire so hopefully this works.

This has been dubbed, by me, The Grand Experiment. I decided I wanted to learn how to vid. I used Victoria's Secret (Part 1&2) and Letting Go since I already had them on my computer and I picked a song without a ton of forethought. Then, I sat down and created this all in one evening. Well, that's not entirely truthful. The other day, I fixed a couple of places that had really been bothering me, but this is, for the most part, what I originally did that night. There are still things I don't like about it. More on that later. Youtube deleted it the first time I posted it. Anyway, I tried to find some other streaming sites, but didn't have much luck what with one thing and another. So this sat on my computer until today.

The final product deviates from my outline, in part because my computer apparently missed a couple of parts in the ripping process. For example, for "light my past on fire," it was supposed to be him in the middle of the street with all of the cars and everything and then them bumping into each other in the diner. That scene? It doesn't exist on my computer. Nearly the entire diner scene is gone, which is a shame because parts of it would have been used in more than one place. Other things just wouldn't all fit in the space I had planned for them. This was quite the learning process, but there's still a lot for me to figure out. I need to find some vidding tutorials, I think. And keep practicing!

Things I like:
- the first "medicate again" line where he grabs the cup of pills
- all the panning shots in a row from "ever after" approx. 0:46 to "ever after again" approx. 1:15
- the cuts when Victoria is in the apartment about to kiss Fraser
- Victoria in the tunic with Fraser
- the polar bear

Things I dislike:
- the opening credits
- that I used the original editing of the gurney scene for about the first 30 seconds
- the jumpiness when Victoria enters the apartment
- the fact that I neglected to make a cut on "falling" when Victoria is about to kiss Fraser because I did so on "from" and "grace"
- the literal fire at "light my past on fire" but she literally does set his past on fire when she burns down his father's cabin. Her appearance also rekindles a bunch of feelings and memories from his past by showing up...or something metaphorical like that. Blah, blah, blah.
- should have left the gun shot shorter and added something else before it
- the jumpiness when Vecchio and Fraser run into the train station
- the diamond scene is too long
- held on the kiss in the car for a second or so too long
- the jump when Vecchio and company are running toward Fraser on the platform

I also go back and forth on liking the timing for "it's beautiful/slipping away/it's beautiful/slipping..." etc. It's pretty good, but I think it was slightly better before I fiddled with other things a few days ago. I think it got shifted ever so slightly.

Ta-da! The End.
