Summary: When Kara's car breaks down in the middle of a road trip, Kara and Lee are stranded in a sleazy motel with only one bed. Can they resist temptation?

Lee pushed the door open reluctantly and stopped in the doorway surveying the room, his face a picture of discomfort and disgust.

“Wow, this place is a real gem Lee, you sure know how to treat a girl right.”

Kara's voice in his ear made him jump a mile. She had moved close to him, looking over his shoulder into the last room left in the last motel on Gemenon. Just their luck that her old clap-trap junk-bucket of a car would choose Colonial Day weekend to conk out on them in the middle of nowhere.

“Well, it's either this or the back of your car, but the heat doesn't work and we're in the middle of the desert, so I kind of think this is the better choice, somehow.”

Inwardly, Lee cursed himself, he sounded pissy and accusatory, he knew, but he was tired, and hungry, and really didn't want to be trapped in a questionable motel room with Kara all night with only one bed.

Well, ok, he sort of did. But he shouldn't, which made the situation all the more torturous.

“All right, no need to get so touchy about it Lee, I'm just trying to lighten the mood a little.” Kara clapped him on the back and hoisted her bag higher up on her shoulder before pushing her way past him into the room.

Carelessly she flung the bag into the corner by the world's smallest television set and flopped backwards onto the bed, spreading her arms wide and swinging her feet.

Lee sighed and stepped further into the room, pushing the door closed behind him and stood awkwardly for a few moments trying to think of what to do next. Kara stretched her arms up over her head, her deep v-necked shirt pulling tightly across her breasts, revealing a small sliver of skin at the hem, the curve of her hip-bone. Lee averted his eyes, his stomach curling in that kind of warm, delicious way it did whenever she was around.

“Are you just gonna stand there all night?”

Glancing back towards the bed, Lee met Kara's eyes. She was leaning up on her elbows, pushing one shoe off with the toes of the other foot. When he didn't answer she raised her eyebrows at him, a bemused smile forming on her lips.

“I'm, uh,” Lee looked around the room and his eyes fell upon the door to the bathroom beyond the bed, “I'm gonna take a shower.”

For a moment his eyes focused on her lips, a slip of pink tongue flicking out onto her bottom lip. He really needed to get out of this room.

Stepping into the bathroom and closing the door firmly behind him, Lee leaned his head against the door and shut his eyes tight, pinched the bridge of his nose. He turned the shower on to the hottest it would go and stripped off his shirt and shorts, toed off his sandals and ducked under the spray.

Tipping his head upwards and letting the scalding water stream over him he tried to clear his mind of all things Kara Thrace. He had always been attracted to her, but these past few weeks since her and Zak had called off their relationship he had been finding it particularly hard to ignore just how much he was attracted to her.
He'd agreed to this road trip because she had told him she needed some fun, because Zak had asked him to make sure she stayed out of trouble now that she wouldn't let him do it, because Kara was his friend, too, and he'd missed spending time with her during the six months that she and Zak had basically holed themselves up in her apartment and frakked each other's brains out.

But they'd been out here on Gemenon for three weeks, in a car, random motel rooms, just the two of them, and Lee was finding it increasingly difficult to keep his desire for her in check. At least in all of the other places they'd had separate beds, but this was the only room left in this gods-forsaken dive of a motel, and there was only one bed.

After twenty minutes and several rounds of lather, rinse, repeat, Lee shut off the water, threw on a clean shirt and pair of shorts and stepped out into the bedroom. Big mistake.

Kara had at some point shed her jeans and t-shirt and was laying on her front on the bed in her sports bra and a pair of boxer shorts that he's pretty sure used to belong to his brother. Her legs were bent at the knee, feet swaying in the air behind her, when she noticed him she leaned over the front of the bed and grabbed him a beer from the box on the floor, thrusting it in his direction.

“Thanks.” She flashed him a toothy smile and put her own beer to her mouth. Lee could have sworn that he saw her tongue reach out to touch the rim of the bottle moments before her lips. He stifled a groan and sank onto the bed beside her. There was a fuzzy looking pyramid game on the T.V. His eyes were too tired to focus on it so he held his beer to his chest and lay back, turning his head to the side, examining Kara's ankle bone where it jutted out under her skin.

“You don't want to watch the game?” Kara asked, pushing herself up onto her elbows, twisting her head so she could look at him.

Lee shook his head, closed his eyes.

“M'tired.” He mumbled, Kara's soft chuckle ghosting over him as he let the fatigue take him over. He became aware at some point of the sound of the television shutting off, the lamp by the doorway clicking dark, the covers on the bed being pulled from under his legs and lain over him as he wiggled his way into a more comfortable position beneath them.

If he'd been paying attention he might have noticed the warm touch of Kara's fingers brushing over his hairline, just once, and the light breeze of her breath on his face. But he drifted carelessly into darkness as the bed dipped to accommodate her, and failed to take into account the fact that she never touched him like that.

He woke to the feel of something cold brushing against his legs, an unfamiliar weight across his middle, the sounds of another person breathing close to him. He turned his head and his nose met her hair, he breathed her in, dust and sunshine and elderflower soap.

The cold on his leg was apparently her foot, icy toes pressing at his calf, and he shivered. Kara jolted a little in her sleep, curled her toes, turned on her side. They were now face to face, noses practically touching in the darkness. Kara slept. Lee watched. The night went on around them.

Every so often a car would drive past, the headlights shining through the thin curtains and illuminating her face, soft eyelashes and the light down on her cheeks. Without thinking about it, Lee reached out his hand, one finger extended to touch her, stroke along the soft skin covering her cheek bone, around to her chin.

Kara's eyes pulled slowly open. Another car drew by, the lights hitting on the golden specks amidst the deep green, she smiled. Inhaling softly, deeply, she inched forward and claimed his mouth with her own, and Lee felt no surprise, only the rumblings of heat in the pit of his groin and that breathless kind of contentment that comes when you are gifted with something you have long desired.

For a moment or two Kara did nothing more than simply press her lips to his, and Lee made no move to deepen the kiss. And then he felt the warm slip of her tongue along the cushion of his lower lip, felt the bed shift as she shuffled closer, felt the cool ridges of her fingertips as they pushed underneath his t-shirt, up along his stomach.

His muscles spasmed under her touch and she smiled against his mouth. He smiled too, and Kara pressed her tongue to him, pressed between his lips and against his own. Lee heard himself groan, a low purring sound in the back of his throat that even he didn't recognise and Kara's legs tangled with his, pressing them closer together along the full length of their bodies.

Her thigh brushed against his crotch, his arousal already obvious and pushing against the cloth of his shorts, and for some reason that was the moment his brain chose to shut the whole thing down.

He broke the kiss, pulling back to look her in the eyes. His breaths came in short bursts, blowing strands of her hair back off her face.

“Hey.” He breathed, for lack of anything better to say. She curled her big toe into the crook of his knee and giggled when he shivered.

“Hey yourself there, Lee.”

He laughed and ducked his head into the mattress, smiling at the glee in her eyes when he looked back up. She was just waiting for him to ask. He kissed her again instead, his lips hard on hers, tongue pushing straight through into the warmth of her mouth, the sweet taste of alcohol mixed with the staleness of sleep, and elicited a squeak from Kara, to his satisfaction.

He pulled back again, bringing his palm to her cheek, brushing the hair back from her face. She was still grinning, but less cocky now.

“What are we doing?” He asked, hushed and incredulous, brushed his thumb across her lips. The glint in Kara's eye returned, she shifted, ran her palm down across the bulge in his shorts and chuckled when he jumped.

“I would have thought that was fairly obvious, wouldn't you?” She told him in a mock-whisper, moving forward to lick out against his lips. Her tongue flicked against his mouth and then drew back behind her grinning lips, Lee was suddenly unable to hold his breath in, exhaled heavily and closed his eyes.

“Gods, Kara.” He started, but the low hum from her throat cut him off.

“Hmm, that's exactly what I want to hear.” Her hand on his crotch pressed more firmly, squeezed, he grabbed her wrist to still her and resisted the urge to suck on her bottom lip as she pouted at him.

“Kara, what about Zak?” Her eyebrows drew together and she blinked several times before re-initiating her assault on his senses, her nose brushing the underside of his chin, her lips closing around the bottom of his jaw.

Between long, wet kisses she murmured into his skin.

“Zak and I broke up, Lee. I know you're pretty dense but I thought you'd at least have noticed that.” Kissing her way from his jaw to his mouth she claimed his lips languidly. He revelled in the feel of her, the taste, the way her skin raised in goose-flesh beneath his touch.

“You and Zak broke up five weeks ago Kara, don't you think this is maybe a little rushed?”

Kara huffed and drew back completely, separating any point at which they had been touching. Lee felt suddenly cold. She was glaring at him in that way that she did when she was trying to stop herself from laying into him.

“Whatever, all right? Let's just forget it.” She rolled on her side facing away from him and pulled the covers up to her chin.

“Kara-” He reached for her shoulder but she brushed his hand away.

“Just go to sleep Lee, forget this ever happened.”

“Kara, I don't want to forget it, I just, hell, Kara I don't want to be your rebound frak from my little brother, is that such an awful thing?” She turned at that and glared at him again, her face incredulous and clearly frustrated.

“My gods how is it possible that you are this dense?”

“What are you talking about?” Kara rolled her eyes heavily, brushed her hand across her face, along her mouth, up to her temple. Lee started to wish he had just stayed asleep.

“Lee, Zak and I broke up because of you. Because he could see how I feel about you and he didn't want to play second fiddle.” For a moment it didn't register, what she was saying, he just gazed at her confused, his mouth slightly open. “He's a smart guy your brother, helluva lot smarter than you are anyways.”

Lee felt his face threaten to break out into a grin, tamped it down immediately, crinkled his brow. He had to play this just right.

“How you feel about me?” He asked in his best 'confused' voice and Kara rolled her eyes again.

“Oh sweet lords of Kobol yes, Lee. How I feel about you.”

“And,” he shifted closer to her, ran his thumb along the inside of her wrist, “how is that?” Kara huffed, rolled back onto her side so that they were face to face again, but dropped her eyes to their hands.

“Come on, Lee, you know what I mean.” She mumbled, he shifted closer, ducked his head so that she had to look him in the eyes.

“I don't know Kara, I'm not really very smart. I think you're gonna have to tell me.” Try as he might, he couldn't stop his grin from forming then if it had been life or death. Kara huffed again and shoved him hard in the shoulder.

“Look I frakking love you, O.K? Can you stop being such an asshole about it and-” He cut her off with the press of his lips on hers, the weight of his hand at her waist, pulling her closer, rolling them so that she was laid out on top of him, the length of her body, her chest, her hips pressing against him. He breathed in deep, the scent and taste of Kara Thrace, the woman he loved filling his senses, rattling his heart into beating too fast, and kissed her, again, and again, until neither of them could remember their names.

Later, in the dark of the sleaziest motel in all of the twelve colonies, with the headlights of a garbage truck hitting one side of her face, buried deep inside of her, cradled between her thighs like it's the only place he'd ever belonged, he pressed his lips to her ear and whispered, “I love you too.”

When he woke again he was alone, the bed cold. His arms and legs felt stiff, and there was a kind of flip-flop feeling in the pit of his stomach, like being excited just to be waking up.

Kara strode in the door in one of his old shirts and a pair of shorts that ought to be criminal, really, elbow deep in motor-oil and wiping her hands on a towel.

She greeted him with a kiss when he sat up and headed to the bathroom to wash up.

“Where have you been?” He called out over the sounds of running water and furious scrubbing.

“Fixing the car.” She called back.

“Huh?” Confused, Lee walked over to the bathroom, stopping in the doorway, taking in the length of her legs and the curve of her ass in those shorts.

“Up here perv.” She didn't even bother turning around and he was busted. He chuckled as she shut off the faucet, turning to him and waggling her eyebrows as she dried her hands.

“How have you been fixing the car? Yesterday you said it was a total bust.” She bared her teeth in a wolfish grin, came towards him and wrapped her arms around his neck, playing with the soft hairs at the nape.

“Yeah, well,” she pressed a soft kiss against his lips, he brought his hands to her hips, “yesterday was yesterday. Today I'm seeing things in a whole new light.”

“What does that mean?” He asked as she leaned in for another kiss, his hands coming around to press against the small of her back, pull her further into him.

Kara shrugged, closed one eye in a lazy sort of wink.

“Guess I just forgot to reconnect the battery.”

His joyful laughs were lost when her mouth touched his again. They didn't check out of the motel until late afternoon. They didn't make it back to Caprica for another three days.
