Where did you go backpaking? Don't you have any stories, like killing a bear with your bare hands or something...

How about this. You were running out of food so you had to eat someone and got the curse of Wendigo and changed into a monster, and fought the X-Men or some other superteam.

I don't think that bear one is that extreme. Sure you could play dead and maybe live. I'd give it a good kick in the head or something... and then get mauled to death... FOR TEH WIN!

As for the eating other people one and turning into wendigo. I don't see how that's extreme at all.
