Keeping myself sane

Jan 18, 2010 22:54

Tomorrow at noon is when I find out if I'm still going to UNO. So, I've caught up to two weeks in advance for my homework and have traipsed around the area surrounding my apartment quite a bit. I found the best pizza place in New Orleans (Theo's) and have wandered around St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 and City Park.

Just as a reminder, here's what the cemetery looks like from my window:

Here's what it looks like from my usual parking spot:

Here's a giant tomb for priests:

Here's one for Greek Orthodox people:

Some people choose to get buried underground, but it's not very common. They've had problems in the past with people floating away during floods. And, I've heard that in heavy rain conditions caskets have been known to slam against the slabs that are there to keep them in their resting place:

Also, different tombs/ burial spots are in different stages of disrepair:

People actually get kicked out if their family plots aren't kept up.

Also, there are tombs called apartments. So, these are the apartments next to my apartment:

In addition to the beautiful cemetery, there is also a beautiful park next to where I live. It takes up acres and acres of city land:

We had a picnic (Popeye's chicken) on a little island with a view of a pavilion and a bunch of turtles, swans, geese, and ducks:

There are stone lions on the pavilion:

And, as a parting image, Serious Black likes sitting on this cupboard, because that's where the water heater is, and it's always warm:

In other news, my friend Moira met a FTM transitioner and I think she wants to introduce us for some sort of possible romance. Whatevs.

And, the executive director asked if I wanted to join the special Jewish death watch team (where people stay with people who are about to die). It's actually a big honor. Not sure I want to do it, though.
