Regulus laid the segment of parchment gingerly upon the corner of his well-polished desk and drew a quill from the jar of ink placed for absurd convenience by his right hand. The owl made an escape as he set the quill to a fresh portion of parchment and began to write.
Dear Remus,
You may have him whenever our parents allow, as it is for his own good that he leave the house. I think I may recall belatedly such a row, but that's irrelevant.
Do not let Severus hurt you. If you think he will, take steps. Tell somebody beforehand.
I'm still with Noreen, yes. She's had some troubles with other men this Summer, but she isn't hurting me. Currently, however, I am alone at Grimmauld Place, so your letter did come in a timely fashion.
Sincerely, Regulus A. Black
This the aforesaid Slytherin rolled up and attached to the leg of a family owl. Carefully he launched the larger bird into the air - enroute to his friend.
This bird is enormous. I do hope this means that Tala made it to you alright-- she's been overworked, lately, and I'm trying to convince Severus to give the poor thing a break. This one, though... Huge. Slightly terrifying. Would ask Sirius its name, but he is busy glowering at it. He's gone with a "don't ask, don't tell" sort of policy-- he doesn't want to be the one to bring it up, basically. Yes, he is still being a bit of a prat. However, I enjoy his company when he's being more reasonable, so... so yes. I do think it's very good for Sirius to be out of the house. He's stopped asking nervous questions and started enjoying himself (aside from the prattishness, obviously), and it really is good to see him happy.
I don't think he... I mean, I'm not sure he will hurt me, it's just that he could, if he wanted to.
Devitt? Troubles with other men? Oh, you must be joking! She'd never so much as look at another, not when she's got you.... No, honestly, is she mad? She must be mad, to require other men over you. You're... well

My brother has never really struck me as the type of person, however unguarded, to ask nervous questions. I really must learn more about this phenomenon.
Don't let him regardless.
Was that sarcasm, Remus? That said, I might need those wishes behind me.
They decided to visit some old family friends in France, and by old, read obscenely wealthy and pure-blood.
I think I may have shocked him a bit, thus inspiring a few nervous questions. He... um... well he found out about me (though thankfully not about Severus-- were he to find out about that, someone would get seriously hurt). However, he's being very good and sporting about it, and it's not terribly weird or anything like I expected. In fact, I think he trusts me a bit more, somehow, now that he knows. I hate hiding stuff from Sirius--makes me feel simply rotten, so I am actually quite glad he found out.
I... haven't actually had contact with Severus since my last owl, so I don't know what's going on. I'm fairly sure that it can't be too good, though, us not writing. However, I can handle myself, I assure you.
Sarcasm? Me? Oh, Regulus, you know I'm simply dreadful at sarcasm! Makes me go all Slytherin and bitter and mean and such, I'd never partake in such a thing. (No offense meant to your house, of course.) It's just that... well, Miss Devitt doesn't treat you very well, does she? I don't want her to do something rotten
