He then remembered that he didn't know the password, tried to explain to the gargoyle why he needed to see Dumbledore and, when he was met with resounding silence, sat down at the gargoyle's feet with a huff, resolving to wait

Severus leaned against the wall beside Remus silently, twiddling a cigarette between his fingers.

"What?" He snapped bitterly, staring at the ground.

"I suppose asking if you're alright would be dreadfully stupid." Severus pocketed the cigarette, still looking at the ground.

[howlsoftly]

"The most helpful thing I can do is to get good grades and... and... just not be an evil maniac," he spat. "You're right, I'm useless."
