Reads out like this was (or inspired) from Battle Royale and Running Man. Maybe I'll try by browsing it at the local bookstore.

Yeah, the post-apocalyptic 'deadly sport/arena" idea isn't new (the film "Blood of Heroes" also comes to mind) but its still pretty different from that or "Running Man" so it doesn't come off like it is rehashing the genre. :)

I saw this in the store just the other day and was intrigued by it. I'll have to pick it up soon.

I read the second book as well, "Catching Fire". As it turns out, the story is like LOTR in that the three books are all part of one big story so nothing is going to really be concluded until the third book. Gah! But I am looking forward to it. :D

I would totally read that. You should check out "Battle Royale" if you haven't already. Similar ideas, but set in Japan. There's a movie too, same title, and totally watch it with subtitles, do NOT watch it dubbed. It's stupid as hell dubbed.

I make it a personal thing to never watch anything dubbed unless there are no options. ;)
