Some of the nicer days on the island were the ones Terry spent mostly alone, working in the gardens in some form or another. Her day had been spent mainly picking fruit in the orchard until she has a full, heavy basket to carry back to the compound.
Walking through the trees, she spots a familiar face and changes her course. She sets the basket down next to Jamie without so much as a how-do-you-do, and gives him a smile as she brushes dirt off her gardening gloves.
"The jukebox was being... difficult," he said without missing a beat, looking up only when he finished the last sentence of the paragraph he'd been reading. Absently, he dogeared the page, then closed the book shut before lifting his eyes to meet his unexpected company. If asked, he'd be lying if he said he hadn't missed Theresa's friendship this past while -- among other things he tried not to think about for his sanity's sake -- but he had a feeling the question would never come up.
Doing things without questioning them has proven to be the easiest way to interact with Jamie lately, especially when he's just about the one person Terry has a tendency to over-think about.
"Always do," he replied with an easy smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. Glancing over at the basket of fruit, that very same smile turned just a little wry, though, and he looked back up at Terry, more amused than anything else. "You're not about to ask how I like your apples, are you? Our conversations are awkward enough without resorting to cliche."
