I think Ben Folds builds his music off the image that he's lame.. a lot of his music makes fun of himself about it.

Definitely. His piano skills were off the chain. His band was tight, I guess my bad impression stemmed from how they seemed to think saying "fuck" every five words made them sooooo alty cool. And that the audience seemed to think that made them so alty cool too.
