They used to have some class, but in the midt 90's it went pretty much down the drain (From own experience and words from others),I had one harrington from them, that ripped in the seems in 99' and a pair of tassle loafers that fell apart that I bought in 01' the loafers lasted for about 2 weeks and the jacket maybe a week, and it was from normal wear..but I did have a Merc Crombie from the 80's that is still around..so I don't know if they have gone back to quality over quantity, nobody I know buy from them any more cause of bad experience in the late 90's and the early 00's..a mate of mine who has a clothing shop in Bergen (norway) was not very happy with their quality..or atitude for that matter either..that to was some years ago,so they might have changed..I don't know...Their stuff looks nice and it has always looked nice, but the quality is a bugger..try Warrior Clothing for jacket shoes and other nice stuff http:// ( ... )

what do these numbers mean? years that Merc went shitty? Or are they measurements? (like a conversion ratio?) sorry.... I'm kind of a slow learner...

total crap.
I agree with mickey.
Felling the fabric difference between the skirt I had and the newer tonic suits was apparent.
Spend your hard earned cash elsewhere.

just look at online vintage stores. there's a few out there that do specialize in vintage suits. Just as long as you know your measurements, you should be good to go.

i had a tshirt of theirs that fell apart after one wash, so i never even thought to bother with nicer items.

As far as what I know about modern Merc... we actually carried a suit at my place of employment last year.

There is little quality to the product. The majority of its appeal is the design. It's your decision on how you spend your money. It probably won't last very long, but you might look good in it for a little while.

Yeah, like I was saying in the other forum and to back up what people are sayin in here....cheap labor means cheap shit. Merc probably jumped on the "let's manufacture in China" train. People buy Merc for the look and for the name. I've never heard anyone compliment the quality of anything Merc.
There's a lot that goes into making a high quality garment. Fabric choice- more expensive fabrics usually hang better, look better, ect.... Merc may be buying the cheaper version in bulk just to save a buck. The way the garment is sewn actually makes a difference, too.

I'll tailor your suits, Baby...You can have an original Amanda Becker suit
and I'll make it out of bright blue and yellow plaid, it'll be great.

you tailoring/sewing something for me = I'll believe it when I see it.

did you ever find that bag of shirts/pants that you said you'd tailor for me about two months ago? that's all I would want for christmas.... it'd be like a whole new batch of clothes (that actually fit) ! And it would only cost you some time. Not a dime.
: )
