Adding Background Images to Certain Elements of Your Journal

May 05, 2003 19:25

NOTE: This tutorial does not add a background image to your journal as a whole; for information on how to add a background image to your entire journal, please see FAQ 97.

This tutorial will describe how to add background images to certain elements of the system styles Default, Generator, Punquin Elegant with Sidebar, Tabular Indent, and to a limited extent Disjointed and Webley Boxes on White. An understanding of the information in FAQ 97: How do I add a background image? and the howto tutorial "More on Background Images" will be helpful in applying this customization.

Only one override is permitted for each specific override block; if you are currently using a GLOBAL_HEAD override to accomplish other customizations, the above overrides would need to be combined with that existing override (or each other, if you would like to use more than one). Instructions on how to merge overrides can be found in this tutorial.

If you would like to use this technique independently for each view of your journal (to insert a different table background for each view, perhaps), you can do so by replacing GLOBAL_HEAD with DAY_HEAD, FRIENDS_HEAD, CALENDAR_HEAD, as appropriate.

To add a background to all tables in your journal style, use the following:

GLOBAL_HEAD<=

<=GLOBAL_HEAD

The URL shown in the sample override with orange background should be changed to the URL for the image intended to be used for the background.

For the Generator system style, to add a background to the comments links area of your journal style, use the following:

GLOBAL_HEAD<=

<=GLOBAL_HEAD

The font-size shown with the yellow background (8pt) in the sample override can be changed to your preferred font-size. The URL shown with orange background should be changed to the URL for the image intended to be used for the background.

For the Generator system style, to add a background to the subject and date area of your journal, use the following:

GLOBAL_HEAD<=

<=GLOBAL_HEAD

The color shown with the pink background (#000000) in the sample override can be changed to the hexadecimal color code of your preferred text color; you can use the Hexadecimal Color Codes Chart to find the hex code for the color of your choice. The URL shown with orange background should be changed to the URL for the image intended to be used for the background.
