we went to florence this weekend. it's an absolutely amazing city. we took a train in on friday morning. our hostel was nice and clean, right by the train station. the only annoying part was that this guy was painting a mural on the wall during the days when we were there so we had to wait for him to finish before we could go inside our room.

I'd only been in Italty about a week by the time I went to the Accademia, but I'd already seen a bunch of galleries and had begun to notice that Madonna and Childs composed an alarming percentage of Italian Renaissance art. Since the David was the only thing of note in the museum, I kept a running Madonna and Child count. The Accademia had over 60, and it was by far the smallest gallery I saw on the trip.
Also, I was a total tourist and got one of those Florentine chess sets that they sell everywhere there. I think I paid about $50 for it and have used it maybe once.
