Author's Notes: SPOILERS. Not sure if I twisted some facts, since my book's currently on loan. Also, please ignore the terrible title.
The chute seals behind her. Her mouth twisting with worry, she slides down after Ron.
The tunnel is lined with darkness and heat; Hermione lights her wand as she tumbles into a heap of silt, flooding the passage with soft greenish light. Steadying herself on a crinkling snakeskin (she knows those bright coils, even with the yellow eyes absent), Hermione and Ron crawl through the stone barrier before them. Hermione imagines a younger Ron grappling with Lockhart here.
"This is it," Ron says.
Hermione looks at the rotting chamber. And her eye catches on the now-fanged jaw of Salazar Slytherin.
