1. Which character do you actually prefer the movie version of?
None so far. I think from seeing the trailer pictures, that I'll prefer Imelda Staunton as Delores Ubridge than the image I have of her in my head. Imelda staunton looks so nice and sweet in the role and I think that will add a lot to the character of Umbridge. It'll make her nastiness really hit you because she looks so unassuming.

2. Which character do you usually love, but dislike his or her movie portrayal?
I don't dislike Rickman!Snape; I mean, who could? But I'd have prefered Rickman-15-years-ago!Snape (rowr!). I don't like David Thewlis as Lupin. I think the art department/make-up didn't do a very good job with him because wierdly Thewlis is a perfect Lupin when he's not actually playing Lupin in the movies!

3. What is your favorite moment/line/etc. added to the movies that doesn't show up in the books?
Neville looking at the rain on the stained glass window in GoF.
Hermione's cheesy grin to Harry as Viktor takes her arm.
"You tell those spiders, Ron."

Ooh, Sean Bean as Lupin... now there's an idea :) I actually really like David Thewlis but, yes, Sean would be excellent!

there was too many scale model/blue screen shots compared to the real locations chosen for the first movies.

I think that the third film actually had a lot more location work than the previous two.

Firstly, excuse the poor grammar! :D

I think that the third film actually had a lot more location work than the previous two.

To be honest, I don't know for certain whether there were more locations in the first films or not; the design of the later films made it feel that way to me, as a viewer. It seemed fake. I'm thinking primarily of the design for Hogwarts when I say this. I liked the authenticity of the locations of Durham Cathedral and Alnwick castle in PS and CoS. I think the design shift between movies two and three was just too great: The design of the clock tower, the crooked bridge, and the change to the cloisters etc.

1. Which character do you actually prefer the movie version of? I prefer Movie Neville, but only because he seems to be around more in the films (for example, helping Harry with the underwater task in GoF instead of Dobby).
2. Which character do you usually love, but dislike his or her movie portrayal? Like a few other people have said - HERMIONE! I love love love book Hermione but hate with a fiery passion akin to something really firey and passionate Emily Watsons portrayal of her and the writing of her. She gets Ron's lines, she gets Dumbledore's lines, she's always shouty and scowly and pissed off. Ugh!
3. What is your favorite moment/line/etc. added to the movies that doesn't show up in the books? Neville helping Harry with the Gillyweed. He's so freakin' cute with his herbology!
4. In a perfect world, ________ would play _________. In a perfect world ANYONE ELSE would play Hermione. I don't know who, I'm not familiar with young british female actors but I've got to think there's someone out there who could do it better.

I mean, I could handle 5-6-7 hour HP movies with a different Hermione :)

1. Which character do you actually prefer the movie version of? Snape. Quite frankly, I hate Snape (unpopular opinion #1) but I do like Alan Rickman a whole lot. Movie!Snape is funny to me, whereas I just want book!Snape to die, die, die.
2. Which character do you usually love, but dislike his or her movie portrayal? Neville, since the actor careened through puberty, sort of disappoints me. I like the movie version of Neville, but... yeah.
3. What is your favorite moment/line/etc. added to the movies that doesn't show up in the books? "You tell those spiders, Ron." I laughed my ass off.
4. In a perfect world, ________ would play _________. I'm pretty happy with the cast as is, though in my head, Sirius and Remus are always younger.
5. What is your overall opinion of the movies? The first two were boring, but PoA kicks movie butt.

1. Which character do you actually prefer the movie version of?

This is a hard question for me to answer because I tend to enjoy the movie versions of the characters for the most part, whether they matched my mental image of them or not. I have often found myself defending Michael Gambon's Dumbledore (which I think very much captures many elements of the character, just not necessarily the ones people want to see - I guarantee you that he will look quite impressive in combat in Order of the Phoenix),* but I can't really say that I prefer the film counterpart of a character more than what appears in the book (but the same is true the other way around). I guess the only thing to mention here is that I think that some of the best casting in the series thus far has been Alan Rickman and David Thewlis.

2. Which character do you usually love, but dislike his or her movie portrayal?

Well, I don't exactly love him, but I kind of wish that Barty Crouch Jr. in his natural David Tennant form was rather less histrionic, but I generally don' ( ... )

Rik Mayall did play Peeves in the first movie... they just cut out his scenes (Chris Columbus said it once).

Oh my... I have nearly the exact opposite taste that you do. PoA is my least favorite movie, CoS is one of my favorites, and I really enjoyed GoF (despite the hack job with the storyline).

I do agree that I like superGay Cedric and dislike Moody, but for different reasons.

How wonderful that fans can have such diverse opinions about the same "world." Thanks for sharing your take on things. =)
