This is just so, so good. A wonderfully plotted mystery/puzzle, I was particularly impressed with all the Auror procedures and I thought that it made a lovely change to see the Aurors going up against a pettier crook with connections rather than another Dark Wizard.

There were so many good character touches as well, Ron and chess, Harry cribbing off his friends (who all do their bit to contribute), the Aurors' varying levels of wariness about having Harry on the team. And all the pieces slotting together so satisfyingly.

Excellent and very clever adventure! Love all the little details -- a collection of photographs, now full of people making offensive gestures at him, "in what passed for plain clothes among wizards" (heh heh, I can only imagine), "a far more pleasant place now after an extensive redecoration, and the removal of the last of the fixtures and fittings that attempted to kill visitors" -- and I laughed out loud at the pawn, “Hang on then while I put the old crown on and get into drag.” Very inventive approaches to opening the box ("a range of successively more powerful counter-spells...") including Hermione's transparency suggestion, but I'm so glad it was Ron who cracked the case in the end :)

I loved all of your Auror details and the mystery plot you created was brilliant! I thought you treated Harry's situation very realistically, and enjoyed the cameo's by Hermione, Ginny, Kreacher, and RON. ;) Excellent story! :)
