By the time Cedric stumbled into bed, it was nearly three in the morning. He'd been drinking butterbeer with the other sixth- and seventh-year Quidditch players, sprawled on the Gryffindor staircase. As people started to straggle off to bed, Viktor walked by and whispered: "Happy Christmas, Cedric." He smiled hesitantly.
"Happy Christmas, Viktor," Cedric said. "Get some sleep. You'll need it tonight."
Viktor's astonished grin was a gift Cedric hadn't known he wanted so badly. He lay in bed, drifting on the memory of their kiss earlier that evening, begging sleep to come so he could see what happened next.
