Really lovely. I loved the juxtaposition of the sleepy warmth of the room and then the boundless energy of Sirius which almost comes as a shock to the senses.
Well done, and thank you!

Lovely ending - and I'd be interested in seeing more, too!

I do very much want to write the second part, and I'm sure I will at some point. I'll surely upload it to my journal and a select few communities. Don't know which yet... I haven't done this in so long.

I stumbled across this community by accident (I hope it's ok for non-members to comment), and yours was the very first fic I read.
And all I can say is what a fantastic fic it was.
It was beautiful and haunting - words kinda fail me and I can't think up anything better than that.
Thank you for writing it, and I hope you're able to write a second part.

Thank you so much! I find that words fail me when I read most of the fics posted in this community. Its members never cease to stun me. Unfortunately, the community's only here as an archive and a sort of memoriam. thesmithy has recently been created to house many of the writers that were once active here, but it's quite new and - I believe - not very active at the moment. Go ahead and browse through this fantastic place, though. I promise you'll be pleased. :-)

Sirius is just coherent enough to wish them a happy new something, and James leans down to give him a kiss on the forehead.
“No more for tonight, mate. Promise.”
Sirius is the only one in the room partying like they could die any day now, which they could. And James kissing him on the forehead...I just...<3<3<3
Lily catches Remus’s eye and his gaze falters. James tightens his grip round her wrist.
Just from reading this one sentence, I knew there was going to be some Lily/Remus somewhere in this story. Very subtle.
Remus pulls Lily aside and just holds her, digs his fingers into her back before disappearing into the early morning fog. She’s lost track of the moon’s cycle; it seems she’d forgotten a long time ago. She thinks he may have bruised her a little.
It pains me to see Remus suffering and his friends not really noticing anymore.
I'll definitely be watching for the next part of this to pop up somewhere.
