First and foremost, lets talk about the most pressing subject of this film:

HAIR

Yes, so, the hair is nice. They are all way too young for me to be attracted to them, but I do think guys look way better in long hair than they think and should wear it that way more. Dan in particular looks better that way than he does in OotP with it cut way short.

The wizarding world caught onto the 70's two decades too late!

... seriously though, I like it.

Haha, that horrible picture of Rupert Grint aside, I really loved the hair choices in this film. Everyone has that one year where they tried new things. I just loved that they all did it at the same year. :)

Okay seriously. What were your over all thoughts after seeing this that first time?

My thoughts were that for the most part I thought it was the best movie of the first four. They finally found the balance between adaption and good movie. I liked most of the new cast (Moody and Krum in particular). I liked the way they did the tasks and the Yule Ball. I thought it was a great adaption and also a fun movie. And one scene that was short but particularly well done was when Harry comes back from the graveyard. The pain of Cedric's father and Harry's clear trauma were perfectly done.

The two things that disappointed me were Voldemort and the graveyard. Which surprised me because Ralph Fiennes is one of my favorite actors. But he played it way more hammy than serious, and that removed a lot of the menace of Voldemort for me.

Oh, and I go back and forth on Barty Jr. Some parts were good but other parts were a bit too hammy for my taste (the tongue thing for example). I love David Tennant, but he was just okay for me.

And that quick shot of Cedric and his father embracing before Cedric went into the maze! Oh, that broke my heart more than Cedric's father crying, somehow. Maybe because I was expecting Cedric to show up dead and people to be upset, but not that quick moment?

Oh, yup. That too. So painful. So quiet and yet so perfectly done.

What were your thoughts about the new members of the cast: David Tenant, Robert Pattinson, Fleur, Viktor, Barty Crouch Sr., Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes?

Brenden Gleeson: So perfect. He's Moody, and sometimes you can see bits of Barty in him and it is perfect.

Victor: I can never remember the actor's name either, but he was perfect in my opinion.

David Tenant: He was really good at some parts and too hammy in other parts. So I guess it balances out to a meh.

Pattinson: I thought he did a good job. He gave us Cedric who was both popular and genuinely nice and I could really see him as the character.

Fleur: I thought she did a pretty good job of playing a character who was supposed to be both gorgeous and yet talented.

Barty Crouch Sr.: Okay, I guess. I never particularly noticed the character in the book or in the movie, but I guess he did a good job with what he was given.

Fiennes: I love him as an actor, but as Voldemort there are only some moments where he works. I like him when he does the subtle, whisper thing, but there was way, way, way too much ham for me.

How did you like the one and direction of this film? In comparison?

I thought it was the best of the first four. It was a good adaption and felt like it was set in the Harry Potter universe and yet was still a good movie.

I thought it really captured the tone of the book. It was the same magical Potter universe. And it started out light and happy but with hints of menace and ended up darker, which is exactly right.

How do you feel this film stayed to the plot and theme of the book?

Yes. I think this film got the themes and the plot pretty well. It had to cut a lot, but I think the cuts were okay and everything made sense unlike the previous movie.

I wish Dobby'd given Harry the Gillyweed and told him he had to save his Wheezey...

I thought the movie was good in terms of following the flot and theme

the problem was the characterization.
