Riddikulus: 1 - 3 August

May 30, 2015 15:04

Hello folks, I'm back in the saddle with a few updates for you on the upcoming meet-up in London. It sounds as though the general consensus is for something very low-key with a safe space where people can chat to their hearts content about all things fannish. I have some thoughts/plans and these are below the cut to save your friends feeds.

Birds sent me over :D

I can come! I would prefer a free venue on the Sat, though <3

HOORAY! :D

Yes, free seems to be the popular choice. I'm sure a space in a pub or something would be fine, tbh - I'd just like to find somewhere that we don't feel terribly awkward discussing how much we love seeing Draco Malfoy on his knees :D

I've no preference. As long as we have a place to talk and a lot of time to do so, I'll be happy. It's probably wise to find a place where we are alone (as awkward as it might be for us being overheard, it could be mind-boggling for others to listen to 10-15 ladies talking animatedly about our favourite position for the boys, most loved kink...LOL).

I really like the idea of having free Wi-fi though. We could post some pics or other impressions, so everyone who couldn't come is able to catch up on us during the weekend.

Writ, you're so generous to invite us all to your place for the evening! I love the idea.
Thank you for organising the meet-up! *hugs tight*

Yes, having been side-eyed in a pub for screeching "Oh I remember that rimming fic" before, I tend to agree a quieter space would be best for the Saturday :D

I'll keep hunting anyway, and I also like the idea of Wi-Fi because if people wanted to do some drabbling and stuff it might be nice to have internet access and for pictures as you say :)

You're very welcome. I love a good party :D

Hi i was still not 100 percent sure i could come but I will be there for at least One Day. I might be in Norwich the day before so I don't know when I will be in London. If I fly in on Saturday would I still be able to join you? and I would love to party with you. Until when do you need the 100% confirmation for two days? because there are two options for me right now. Flying in on Saturday and back on Monday. Or I might come by train Saturday Morning. But I WILL be there unless I fall ill!

You know I'll be there. As far as venue... when you speak of a room in a pub, what do you mean?

*shows her American side* Like is it the sort of room you rent for an overnight or is it more like a cheaper meeting space than a conference room or more like a private dining room?

I think that's probably what I'd go for and can help cover the costs for renting it. I'm sure we'll have a great time no matter what...

I do indeed :D

Oh, by room in a pub I mean a back room we can be in for the day until we go on to my place. The only problem with that is (a) the spaces tend to be pretty big unless you just reserve an 'out of the way' table (b) privacy and the ability to freely converse without being side-eyed by Muggles ;-) and (c) sometimes there's a minimum spend required, although obviously I'd look for something without a minimum spend and should be fine to get somewhere.

At the moment, I'm still looking into meeting spaces but I'm confident a spot in a pub will be readily available as a fallback plan.

Thanks so much for taking over the reins on this! It's quite hard finding the balance between Mugglespace with people listening in, and full-fledged meeting space in central London. A pub backroom would be good; I've got to say, £65 is a bit rich for me. And thanks for the party idea - that sounds great - as does readings! But again, I'm not sure I'd want to do standup pron reading in an east-end London pub.

You're welcome!

Yes, the safe space is why a meeting room/private room appeals more to me than a pub, so that's what I'm looking into first :)

The standup reading would be at my place, so no Muggles around :D

Looking forward to meeting you!
