This popped into my head months ago when I saw this character in the Lexicon, so I'm very happy to have a reason to write about her!

Annis Black (15 March, 1946 - present)

If this hag's surname makes you suspect a connection to the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, then you're on to the Black family's dirtiest little secret.

In the early 1990s, Annis Black, of Deadmarsh, first gained attention and notoriety by writing letters to the Daily Prophet protesting the newspaper's depiction of hags as flesh-eating monsters, and posting an advertisement offering her babysitting services.

In June 1998, Black sent the Wizarding world into further uproar when, in the wake of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's fall, she publically claimed to be the first child of none other than Orion and Walburga Black. Discovered to be a hag at the age of five when she tried to eat her newborn cousin, Bellatrix Black, Annis was banished from the household. According to her, she was taken in by her Squib uncle Marius Black, another outcast of the toujours pur family, who raised her as a vegetarian.

Of course there are few members of the Black family still living to confirm this claim. Narcissa Malfoy, née Black, is too young to recall the vicious attack on her now deceased sister, and denies the possibility of such a preposterous scenario; Andromeda Tonks, née Black, also claims to know nothing about the matter, adding that she would not put it past her Aunt and Uncle to banish a hag from the family. In a show of trust and goodwill toward fellow magical beings, Tonks included Black on the guest list of grandson Teddy Remus Lupin's first birthday party, at which event none of the dozen children was in any danger of being eaten. However, a House-elf, Kreacher, servant to Orion and Walburga Black for the full tenure of their marriage, says there was a child, a daughter, born years before Sirius Black, of whom he was forbidden to speak. So, if you believe the testimonies of aged House-elves...
