Hi, guys! While I'm working on my multi-chapter fic, I simply had to post a tag for The Dwarf in the Dirt. Nothing earth-shattering, just a short fic about what might have been going through Booth's head during the end of the ep. I hope you enjoy - thank you for reading!

A very genuine voice for Booth throughout and I liked the insights you brought up, especially "From the minute he met her he knew he’d die for her."

I have recently been rewatching the first season and it is interesting to watch how intensely protective Booth is of Bones, after having known her for a very short time.

I agree with you. He is fiercely protective of her, and it goes back to the moment in the very first episode, when he was speaking to Cullen. Cullen said to him, "You take a squint out into the field, she's your responsibility." He didn't even flinch, just looked at Cullen and said, "Yes, sir." From that moment he would have given his life to protect her. Before he loved her, before he even liked her, he said he would look out for her, and that was that. He gave his word.

That is a critical component of this wonderful man, of who he is and what makes him tick. And it's one of the reasons we love him so much. Sigh.

Okay, I'll stop loving on him and move on. ;)

Thank you so much for reading and commenting - I really do appreciate it.

Oh wonderful comparisons here between his pre-op and post-op life, but more importantly their relationship in those contexts. His thoughts about their early partnership were a nice touch. Completely him, too.

He only needed one person’s approval. One person’s heart.
That line defines Booth. *sighs* It's going to be amazing when he realizes he already has it.

Nice work :)

Yes, isn't it going to be just lovely when she does or says something to give herself away, and he catches it. And just like that, he'll know. And something in him will smooth out and relax.

And we'll all be big puddles of goo on the floor. Sigh.

Thanks for reading, hon - I do so appreciate it.

Hey, look! LSQ is catching up from being stupidly behind! I've even got two pieces from you. But here I come!

You've done a wonderful job in this opening paragraph in really laying bare Booth's mindset and the vulnerability he's feeling: All the things he’d always defined himself as were slowly but surely being taken away from him. Sometimes lost things were just lost. Still, he looked for them because he didn’t know what else to do.

This line in particular was just beautiful: She brought back the silence. And in that silence he found the conviction he’d lost, the strength he needed. What a wonderful way to show the strength of their connection.

I love the flash of brilliance that connects all the dots for him -- that when he really needed to perform for her, his aim never faltered. It puts all the pieces together for him ( ... )

You ARE catching up! That's great! Now I just need to do the same...I'm working on it. Eventually...

The minute they told us he was having trouble shooting, my mind shot right back to Harbinger, and I knew. That was a pisser of a shot to make, and it was like child's play for him. He never hesitated for one second. She was the answer, for him.

They way each of them is there for the other, many times without either of them realizing it, is just awe-inspiring. How lucky we are to get to watch it as it happens.

Thanks for reading - I'm so glad you enjoyed it. And I am very happy to be back. I missed you guys!
