My sister checked SS out from the library when it was a brand-spanking-new book and made me read it after she was done. Then there was a book sale at the library and we bought it.
A couple months later Harry became a house-hold name.
I've been here since the beginning, folks. And I'm siriusly envious of those who get in later in the game and didn't have the painful wait between each book.
I love Harry for many reasons, one is that the book's themes grow up with him and get darker as he gets older. Which is good because I'm getting older with him, only since it takes JK so damn long to finish the damn things I grow up faster than him. If things had stayed glossy I wouldn't be so interested anymore. But things keep getting darker and leave you wanting more. And if you got into it when he was new than your growing up with him and things get more interesting.
I first heard of Harry Potter when the first movie came out and because it was everywhere and hyped to the max it put me off the whole thing. I thought it was a kiddies movie and wasn't interested although I've always liked magical stories and things like that, I thought I might have liked it but didn't want to see a childrens film that is over-hyped
( ... )
My theatre school instructor got me into them, but slowly. She had read the books while in England for the summer, and when she came back she was obsessed with them and so she used them as muses for our Improve classes. She discribed Hogwarts to us, and told us to invent a character that would fit in the setting. I was Henrietta Hogglebort, a 504 year old Ghost and if I were to sing Happy Birthday I could drive some people crazy. It was amusing to say the least. Anyway, the last day of fall term she read us an excerpt from the the philosopher's stone and told us that's here she got all her ideas for our improve classes. By then I was very intrigued by the books that had created so much improve amusement, so I went and bought book 1, and I finished in an hour. I told my mom to get me the next to for Christmas, which was a month away at the time, and spent the whole month waiting feverishly to open the books. I spent boxing day anddec. 27 reading books 2 and 3. Now I'm completely obsessed, all thanks to Summerhouse Theatre.
my aunt used to read them to my cousins, and sent me one saying to 'give it a try' because she knew i loved to read, but was trying to get away from 'kiddie' books.
I dont remember how. I just remeber SS being there and not wanting to read it. But one day i got grounded and had nothing else to do so i thought i'd read it. and i fell in love.
