I am so high, I can hear heaven,
I am so high, I can hear heaven,
Oh, but heaven, no heaven, don't hear me,

She kneeled on the ground, placing the flowers in front of the grey slab of marble that seemed an abomonation to her. She traced a finger along the lines spelling out his name, and wondered briefly if he was finally with his parents. A year, and so much was still left to do.
"Can you hear me, Harry? You saved us all, you know. And we love you, and miss you.," She sobbed softly, unable to finish speaking. A hand brushed her shoulder and she looked up, startled, wiping at her eyes absently.

"I think he can hear us." Remus smiled gently at Hermione, and as she struggled to stand once more on legs that were now dangerously weak, he offered her his hand. She took it, squeezing gently, and offered him her own weak smile. And then she broke down again, and Remus did the only thing he could think of. He pulled the broken child woman, his mind screamed out, into his arms and held her as she grieved for her friend.
His gentle hands made small circles on her back as he held her close and whispered comforting words to her. Soon, her tears had subsided and she pulled away far enough to look at him. He looked tired, worn, and her mind automatically counted days and she realized it was the second day of his transformation. A few hours and the man standing before her would no longer be a man at all.

She opened her mouth, meaning only to thank him. But as she looked into his eyes she felt vaguely guilty. Remus was hurting too - and was utterly alone now that Harry was gone. "Would you like to have dinner with me?"

He looked surprised and began to nod his head but stopped himself and sighed softly. "Hermione, as much as I appreciate the offer, tonight is the full moon."

She pursed her lips and shook her head. "Honestly Remus. How many times did you transform while we were all hiding together those many months. I'm not afraid." She knew that the last year he had shown amazing control over himself when he transformed, and it was Remus, after all. Safe, comfortable, Remus. And truth be told, she wanted to spend a few hours in the company of someone else who remembered Harry the same way she did. With Ron busy with his new job at the Ministry, which still surprised her - Remus was the only one who had, in essence, been a part of them. And she needed that right now. And she thought he needed that as well.

Remus smiled and hugged her again, and she relaxed gratefully into his embrace.

And they say that a hero can save us,
I'm not gonna stand here and wait,
I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles,
Watch as they all fly away,

"Stay, please." Hermione cleared the plates from the table and started a kettle of water for tea. She deliberately avoided his eyes as she puttered around the kitchen. Avoiding someone in a kitchen as intimate as hers, however, wasn't easy.

Remus stood and moved the few steps to her, preventing her from walking away. She looked at him, and was once again struck by the sadness that always seemed to linger in his eyes. When Remus spoke, his voice was quiet. "You know I'm going to change tonight?"

She nodded and tried to move away to the now whistling kettle. Remus stayed where he was, and captured her chin in one hand. He brought her face up until she was looking into his eyes and spoke again. "Are you sure?"

"Yes." A simple answer, but suddenly it seemed as though it was more than just an answer to his question - it was an answer to the questions he'd never asked.

Someone told me, love would all save us,
But how can that be, look what love gave us,
A world full of killing, and blood-spilling,
That world never came,

Remus woke the next morning, naked, as was always the case. But this time he wasn't alone. He was curled in a bed her bed and she was curled around him, one arm wrapped delicately around his waist, the other was resting comfortably on his... Oh gods, what had he done?
He stretched, trying to pull away without waking her - and she mumbled and moved closer to him. "Hermione." He kept his voice low, and closed his eyes and willed his sudden arousal to go down.

She mumbled something and opened her eyes, blushing when she realized where it was her hand was. She moved her hand quickly, as though something burned, and blushed fiercely.

He rolled over onto his back and pulled her close to him, cradling her head in his arm. "Want to talk about it?"

And talk she did, for hours, the both of them did - sharing things they hadn't been willing to share with anyone else, because it had seemed like a betrayal of sorts to Harry. About Harry, about Ron - about all the people they had both lost. The end of the war, the lives lost - and how it seemed that everything they had fought for had been for naught, it seemed. Because the killing still went on - the rogue Death Eaters, the people driven insane by Voldemort in the last days - the once good people that even now were being hunted down and confined in Azkaban.

And they say that a hero can save us,
I'm not gonna stand here and wait,
I'll hold on to the wings of the eagles,
Watch as they all fly away,
Now that the world isn't ending,
It's love that I'm sending to you,
It isn't the love of a hero,
And that's why I fear it won't do,

"Is it ever going to end, do you think?" Hermione raised her head up finally and looked at him, into eyes still filled with sadness - but filled with something else as well.

"It will, eventually. Enough people are left that still believe in the reasons we fought this war in the first place." He ran his hand absently on her hair, threading his fingers through it as he spoke. She lowered her head back down and nodded into his chest.

"Hermione." Remus cleared his throat softly, and she picked her head back up to look at him. "Hermione, about this morning, when we woke up..." He trailed off and blushed, not able to find the words for what he wanted to say.

She shifted slightly, until she was face to face with him. Her lips hovered over his and she whispered softly, and he caught the faint smell of lavendar coming from her body, and a musky, heady undertone that he could almost taste. "Remus did you - did you mind?"

Her question took him by surprise, and he shook his head slowly. He hadn't minded - not at all - but wasn't sure whether that was the answer she wanted to hear. She smiled then, and lowered her lips until they brushed against his own. He stifled a small moan and she deepened the kiss, threading her fingers in his hair and pulling him even closer.

And they say that a hero can save us,
I'm not gonna stand here and wait,
I'll hold onto the wings of the eagles,
Watch as they all fly away.

And they are watching us,
They're watching us,
As we all fly away,

Remus wrapped his free arm around her and pulled her close, looking at the flowers that now grew on either side of the cold, grey marble. The spring air was warm, and he could see the stirrings of life all around them. "It's going to be alright, you know."

She nodded and put her hand over his, which was resting on the slight swell of her abdomen. "Yes, it is."

And they are watching us,
They're watching us,
As we all fly away,

And they are watching us,
They're watching us,
As we all fly away.
