Hermione reached into the foil wrapping, dislodged a piece of chocolate from the block, and ate it with neither pomp nor expression. It was Muggle chocolate and decidedly inferior to the Honeyduke’s brand, but Hermione was insistent that her parents should send it to her in care-packages each week, because she did not go on Hogsmeade weekends any more. Hermione now spent Hogsmeade weekends much like she spent every other night of the week; alone, soberly studying book after book, with seldom a moment for anyone or anything else at all.
The sound of laughter drew her eye from the dry, NEWTs-level arithmancy text before her. She glanced about, hoping to frown at the party willing to disturb the stuffy, evening peace of the library, and saw that Ginny and Harry were amongst the shelves nearby. They were standing in each other’s intimate space, exchanging significant glances, brushing hands against hands; they did not notice her. Harry murmured something to Ginny and she whispered a reply to him, then elicited a blush on his pale cheek where she placed a slightly-less-then-chaste kiss.
Only a few months ago, Hermione had known the sorts of things Ginny whispered in the library, amongst the shelves; ‘Touch me,’ she would say, ‘Never stop touching me. Just…there - Oh - Oh sweet Merlin - Oh, yes… yes…‘Mione, I love you.’
Harry caught Ginny’s hand, and pressed a kiss to the palm, eyes trained to Ginny’s face. Hermione broke off another piece of chocolate, face deadpan, and shifted in her seat so that she did not have them in her peripheral vision. As she resumed reading, she reached down and unfastened the side of her skirt, which was far tighter now than it had been a few months ago.
