Born as the second son to perhaps the most famous face in the Wizarding world, and a former Quidditch star, Albus has not achieved anything in his eleven years to really bring him out of their shadow. The only thing remarkable about him is that he is his parent's son. Not that he begrudges this. His upbringing has been a happy one, his parents loving and supportive, and his siblings close.
True, his relationship with his brother James is a little volatile. As much as he loves and respects his older brother, a mixture of Potter arrogance and Weasley temperament - combined with a healthy dose of boyish mischief - hardly makes for a stable foundation to their relationship. What the relationship lacks in stability, though, it more than makes up for in strength. Albus would not think twice about standing up for any member of his family.
He adores his little sister, and is very protective towards her, even though that is likely to be almost entirely unnecessary if she follows precedent. Still, he offers her the utmost care and support. He is likewise attached to his cousin Rose. He tends to forge tight bonds with friends and family in general.
Albus has been looking forward to attending Hogwarts ever since he can remember, though as the day itself approaches, he is becoming more nervous about it. He wants to create a good impression. More importantly, he wants to prove himself there. He is not satisfied with being seen as Harry Potter's son and nothing more. The recognition he receives due to his parents is, in his eyes, undeserved. It smacks of the attitudes of the “Pureblood” families against which he has been cautioned. Even if he himself has not fully realised it yet, he is determined that if he is to be recognised, it will be on his own merit.
